Yup. Be nice when you call them.

I am sorry. This is upsetting. I know it is a waste of your time but i would call another dealership and speak to the service manager. I would tell him about your experience at Lone Star Toyota and expect better diagnosis. Most dealerships are receptive of taking business away from a dealership.

I watched the new ceo interview at automation this morning on CNBC. He stated that service is the realm of the world in the car dealership world. Service departments are cash cows. Avg billing rate for technicians is $140.

Update...

Drafted a 2 page letter with pics and emailed to Toyota Corporate. Will be making some calls next week too but I’m pretty sure they will be contacting me.

Appreciate everyone’s advice as I work through this!...this Forum has my 6 on this.

OP, I assume you cleaned the housing area? Clean around the area where the oil could of trickled or follow the seam from. Clean the skid thoroughly as well. Check the oil level and keep an eye on it. If the drip or oil pooling comes back take it back to Toyota. The next step for them would most likely be UV dye added to your oil to track the leak.

What he said plus you might not realize it but Toyotas And LX’s are self healing vehicles yours might’ve healed itself. I hope

I wish that would have been the case. I did clean it up originally and after a few days, it was visibly weeping again.

Ok all, just providing an update on this. Returned from some vacation and Spring Break time with family in OK, goal is to get the Cruiser into another shop this week (probably tomorrow). I took some more pics and will ask/insist I'm part of of the review once they pull it in to look at.

Here's a pic I took today...

I have been in the garages several times in my old IS-F and before buying my Landcruiser so don't let them tell you it's not allowed. They can escort you out to look at everything, but they may not let you be out there the whole time, especially if they're busy and have vehicles coming and going.

Good luck with your visit and the issue. Did corporate ever get back to you?

Corporate did call but I could tell it just seemed like someone cycling through cases. He was genuine though and asked that I try another dealer for a “second opinion” to which I said I would do.

Sorry to hear that it is dragging so long. I wonder why they are hesitant to put the U-verse dye in the motor oil to trace the leak or determine it is intact motor oil. I had a similar leak in my challenger SRT8. It ended up being one of the plugs in the back side of the motor did not have sufficient sealant applied to during assembly. It trickled down the motor then to the seam of the motor and tranny. The UV dye made quick work of determining the leak. Hopefully the next dealership can get that started so you can get it fixed.

Good news...new dealership agreed that there is a leak! They said they had looked into it (also took pics and sent to Corporate for analysis) and it is the rear main seal that is leaking. The rear main seal, however, is on backorder but they are expediting one in with a goal to have everything buttoned up by end of week.

Care to fill us in on which dealer? I'm local in DFW and like to keep track of such things if I ever need "dealer" service/warranty work done.

Toyota Grapevine (right off 114) confirmed the problem and great to work with...would use again!

Lone Star Toyota Lewisville (right off 35E) was a nightmare...will not even look over at them when I drive by!

FYI, I think there was a very new 2018 or 19 posted here that appeared to be a RMS leak but was actually a pinhole in the casting of the upper oil pan. Might be worth them looking into this before they put a RMS on it and it doesn't fix the leak.

Talk about timing! I literally just got off the phone with the dealer and they realized that IT WAS the upper oil pan, not the rear main seal. The Tech apparently let things "sit" for a bit after pulling the trans to verify and sure enough, he found the real reason.

As with anything, there is always a "however"...the however here is that the parts needed to fix this are on back order till next week meaning I won't get it back till next Friday. I'm ok with that because at least it's getting fixed (plus I get to drive the 80 around in the meantime :)).

Might be worth a PSA on this forum to let other new owners know to pay attention for leaks. There aren't many ' 18/19 owners on here.. for two to have this problem already suggests a pretty high rate.

Also IIRC the engine has to come out to pull the upper pan.. when you get it back pay special attention to things like coolant hose leaks, harnesses not being clipped into appropriate spots, etc.

Glad they found the problem though..

Great ideas...once I get it back with the findings and all the paperwork, I’ll post everything.
