For those of you running Goodyear MTRs on your daily drivers what psi have you found works best for you? I just bought a used set (285/75/16) and currently have them at 42 psi, does this sound about right. Thanks.

I think 42 sounds pretty high. I had my BFG ATs at 38 and found that the middle of the tread was wearing faster than the shoulders so I've dropped them down to 34 now. Toyota OE psi is 32 (for stock size).

The 285 MTRs are D range, and they are pretty stiff, even for our heavy Land Cruisers. If I run any higher than 30 psi, the ride is really punishing and I'm over 6300lbs, but each of these tires is rated for 3300lbs so that's why. Compared to 2500 pounds for a C load range, 33x12.5-15 tire.

That means even when I'm fully loaded, I not even using half the tire's rated load capacity. But at least there's a lot of reserve capacity and hopefully some added strength there.

Right now I'm running right about 30 for highway use. I sometimes drop into the 20s when I'm driving around on rough dirt roads, just to help with the ride. This is definately a tire you don't want to inflate to its maximum psi of 65. Unless you're driving around in a fully loaded Ford Superduty or something.

in town and freeway to save gas: 50 psi (been up to 60 or so for long freeway drives as in WestCoast to Moab)

dirt roads : 30

rough or sandy trails: 25

serious offroading on rocks: 20

deep serious sand playing: 15
