How did you manage to get the boss-lady to give you all of this free time?

I've been giving the boys there baths around 7:30PM, putting them in bed and reading their bedtime stories by 8:00, then out to the garage until midnight - 1:00AM. Work was rough and she still is getting mad at me for not going to bed with her, but as long as I alternate nights she doesn't get too mad. We are moving this weekend so I had the added excuse of "I need to at least have the brakes done so I can safely move this thing." Too bad I can't find the rest of the fittings I need in town to actually finish them before we move. Right now all work has ceased until we get into the new house (3 car garage:grinpimp: ) around the middle of Feb..

looking forward to you gettin back at it man!!!!!! lol im impressed you have inspired me.

Me too! Right now I'm trying to get a list of all the fittings I need for my brake lines. I'll order the parts when I have an address to ship them to.:D

I been seeing this post and always want to ask is your old 10 bolt bent ???? looks like if from the pic. it may just be me i dont know

Damn, I haven't checked out your progress in a while at WHeeling AZ.
You have really picked up alot of steam lately. Nice work. Hopefully when my V8 swap is done we'll wheel the Cruisers together.

Which Pic? I swapped the 10-bolt for a D44 a while back. But to answer your question, no the D44 isn't bent.

Thanks! If not for this move, I might have been able to drive it by now. I hope I can maintain my motivation once we settle in the new house. How much further do you have on your swap? I look forward to wheeling with you!

that looks sick dude!

Thanks!

We moved into the new house this weekend. I get the 2 car garage side all to myself!:D

Now all I have to do is get all the boxes out the garage so I can pull the Cruiser in.

I took a little time and finished up the rear disk conversion. One of the brackets I got from Sky wasn't drilled properly so I couldn't bolt it to the axle. They also shipped the brackets with grade 5 bolts and I wasn't real sure about using grade 5 hardware for the brakes. I decided to weld the bracket to the axle rather than try to fix the holes or return the bracket. I used my grinder to clean the mounting flange and bracket. Then (where i could) i bolted the brackets to the flang and used clamps to hold the bracket tight against the flange where I couldn't use bolts. It's all welded up and the calipers are on. I only had to grind a little off the caliper to get the 15" wheels to clear.

The FJ40 came from the factory with a hydraulic clutch which uses a master and slave cylinder. The SM465 Transmission that I picked up was a mechanically operated clutch. So the issue was how to mount the slave cylinder to retain the hydraulic clutch setup. One of the previous owners swapped an old Chevy 265 V8 into it and rigged a bracket that mounted to existing holes in the side of the block near the bell housing which worked great. My new 350 does not have the same tapped holes. I was going to make a bracket that attached to the bell housing, but I found one made by Advanced Adapters online at www.tlc4x4.com. It was only ~$31 so I ordered it.

Over all the bracket is "OK". It flexes a bit when i press the clutch pedal. Now my problem is that the clutch fork isn't moving far enough to engage the clutch pressure plate. I replaced the slave cylinder because the old one was puking fluid everytime I pressed the pedal. I bled the hell out of it with a vaccum bleeder. I think I need to bleed it the old fashioned way (I just need to borrow someones foot). The new cylinder came with a new rod but it was too long and it wasn't threaded far enough down the shaft so I could cut it down from the outside end. I'll cut down on the inside and use the adjustment nut that came with it.

I'm not sure how far I can push the clutch fork in by adjusting the nut before it will be "riding" the pressure plate. Right now I get about 1" of throw when I put the pedal to the floor and it takes a bit of force to get it to the floor. Does this sound normal?

That is very similar to how my old set up was. It worked okay... I am not sure about the throw distance, no help here on that. It does seem short in the animated pic. We cut down the inside end too and kept the thread and nut as is. I can check for you tonight what I've got for throw - unless someone else is bored today.

The bracket I have was tapped on the backside and the bolts threaded right into the 1/4" backing. I had to bleed the slave then bolt it on.

I ended up swapping in a novak conversion that uses a GM slave and simpler bracket.

Looks good.

In the animation pic ( nice . ! ) it donsen't look moving linear .. ?

Yeah, I noticed that. I guess I could put washers behind the slave to space it further from the block. That would line the fork up with the cylinder.

I was looking at the Novak kit, but too $$. I'll try pulling the slave off to get the bleeder to the top, and then bleed it. I'm sure I still have air in the line.

The travel looks short .. but in a pic I'm not sure .. ( the old style bleeding is the best :D )

Well, bad news and good.

The bad:
2 Months ago I was diagnosed with a very rare form of Cancer (Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor <DSRCT>). I'm considered stage IV and terminal. Doctors say I have about 6-9 months to live. I say otherwise. I'm gonna stick around to see my kids grow up and hopefully get to see grandkids someday. I've had 2 surgery's over the last 2 months. During the last one they were able to remove a large (25-30 pound) tumor from my abdomen. I've dropped about 42 pounds since the surgery.

The good:
While I was in the hospital my friends over at wheelingarizona.com decided to donate money parts and time to work on my project. It was a very overwhelming suprise. They finished up the brakes and got the engine plumed and wired and built my front drive shaft. I even got to hear it fire up for the first time and watched as they drove it on the trailer. It went up to Tucson to my friends house where they finished the rear drive shaft and cut out the rockers so they can boat side it and start building the roll cage. It will be going to Crossed Up Off-Road where they will be doing a hydraulic assist steering setup for me then back here to another friends house where they're going to paint it.

If you'd like to follow the rest of this build they are updating this thread (I posted some video of it running and driving onto the trailer): http://wheelingarizona.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10231

When it's complete I'll probably do a re-cap here in this thread.

Any parts ya might need? I have a few laying around of all sorts you are more than welcome to.

Enjoy each day...

Saw this on Pirate.

Be strong amigo.

Put up a list of parts. I bet peopel have everything you need :)

I'll pitch in whatever I have as well..

Thanks guys. I think they have just about everything they need. The gas tank is trash but I think they're looking a getting a fuel cell for it. I can't wait to getting well enough to get out their. Maybe I'll actually get to wheel with some of you local guys.
