Welcome to my latest and newest play toy. This will be a slow build for me as i am only using my spare change to build this thing. All the while still house hunting. And working every week.

My goals for this thing. Be a point and press the gas pedal type rig. Will be a trailer queen as you will see why soon enough.

What it will be running:
Chevy small block running on Propane
700R4 built right
Atlas Transfer
For now cruiser axles with Longs up front and something stonger out back
ARB's insde the axles
Spring over in the front
Want to do a 4 link in the rear, but need to find a shop here in NC to guide / build
Running on 38's
Complete cage
Aftermarket nice / good seats
And alot of other stuff that is small stuff

Now onto the pics

And please post all comments / help you can come up with.

Flaming river steering

Home made rock sliders

And more stuff as i think about it.

Let the fun begin.

And thanks to R.K. for the project.

And almost forgot.

The color...

Will be Orange, want to say just like Marshalls. Not too sure on his color code though. Have the code here, just not too sure where right now.

Darin does great work and I thoroughly look forward to seeing this all come together. I will take some time later this afternoon to comment on some of the ideas you have presented.

That'll be a beast. Do the 4-link yourself. Just look in the Hardcore Corner and you'll see a bunch of folks who have linked the rear. I was going to do it but got to looking at the cost and decided to SOA w/ 55 springs.

You said slow.

The thing is already cut apart and sandblasted. You are no pun intended cruising. That will be extremely fun.

I just really started working on it this week. The body was not mounted by any bolts to the frame.

I already cut out the rear frame member that was rusted slam out. I also cut off all of the not needed pieces on the frame like engine mounts / shock mounts.

I guess my biggest question about that is, Can you still keep the rear tub and not cut holes in it for anything?

Looking good Darin, keep us posted on your progress. It wouldn't be too bad do the 4-link yourself, but there are some key things that need to be done for it work properly. If you're looking for a good shop in NC, contact PJ at M&M Offroad in Mocksville.

You can do the rear 4-link without cutting holes in the floorboards if you run coil springs. You're going to have to cut them if you run air shocks or coil-overs.

As for the rear axle, if you're going to keep the FJ40 front axle, I would run a hybrid centered rear axle. You would have an FJ40 diff with mini truck axle shafts - very strong with a fine spline pinion. I know somebody who has one if you're interested...

Little bit more info.

On the frame i am going to use Rust Bullit again with their Black topcoat also.

I am also going to put the same spray in bedliner in / under the tub like i did on my 45.

Keep in mind i am going to weld up all the holes / rust spots but this thing will not be a show stopper for looks, as i know it will get bent soon enough.

Nice, this looks like it is going to be an awesome build. Here you are building an awesome 40 and I've been spray painting on my 80....dang I feel lame:hillbilly:

I have been wanting to do this for a few years now.

Need to get my nice 40 off of the trails. It has no body damage / rust to it and would like to go back down stock with it one day.
