Condo strata doesn’t like my project truck. HJ60 1986. Has a bad piston. But new frame and OME suspension. But it has to go. Free. Or if possible, need place to work on engine. Sad day for sure.

Aw man, that sucks. I remember the days of wrenching on my Toyota projects in my condo parking lots. I was on Strata council which helped my case a bit, LOL.

I wish I had space for a long term project like yours, but I don't, sorry. If you are forced to get rid of it, at the very least try to get some money for it! There is value in any diesel landcruiser with a good frame.

Was the engine after market turboed? How many kms on it? What makes you say it's the piston? Ring lands are weak on the 2H, but usually they're ok when not turboed. Also, it would be unusual for just one to be toast. Any chance it could be something relatively simple like a head gasket? Or maybe 'stuck' rings?

Where are you?

@Mich . I read through a couple of your other posts. Did you ever actually test compression of your 2H? I do have a compression tester and glow plug adapter for a 2TLE. Might fit the 2H ok.

I saw you replaced injector nozzles yourself. I've tried this myself too, and they didn't last. Could it be your injector in one cylinder is not working right? I do have an injector tester too if you want.

A bad cylinder will give you a choo choo out the oil filler cap. Have you removed it and observed? Watch this video carefully right when the guy removes the oil cap. That is what you get with a bad cylinder. If yours isn't doing that, then your cylinders might be ok. There is one of these videos of a 2H too, but I can't for the life of me find it right now.

Is the thing insured and running otherwise? If you're in Victoria I could probably put part of a day aside to try to diagnose exactly whats going on.

Compression was bad. Mostly got the head off but was missing the right wrench for the injection pipe fitting. Then fell out of a tree. Bad wrist set me back on wrenching. Plan was to pull the head and see if the bore is ok. If yes, then order a piston. A bit tricky to do in a parking lot but I think possible. But work hasn’t left me the time to get this done.

Not turboed. Noisy injector that I neglected too long I think hammered the piston. And lands. Of course just a working theory until I finish pulling the head.

Bad news is if you need to oversize the bore and buy a piston you will be buying a set as they do not sell singles..Maybe Mr, toyota sells singles??

Hoping bore is ok. Place in Edmonton used to sell single pistons. Almost same as a set though!

I know a guy who has a set of 5 piston, but I think they are over sized...

Sorry to hear about that hopefully you can figure out a way to keep it. GTSSportCoupe Has good info there’s a lot to check first. But If you have to get rid of it I’m interested and can pay you some money. Interested to see more about it but free seems too cheap!
