18-20mpg may be doable with a completely stock 80. As you weigh her down with armor, tires and lift, you'll be seeing more like 15mpg. Still less engine weight and a flat torque curve is always a good thing.
Curious if the OP will be able to tune the torque converter lockup on this PCM.

Not sure about the splines, but the output shaft length is significantly different in this context so I guess the answer is no.
