Programming a key for a 2005- is this an inside joke?

And if it is, my good lord is it a funny one. Whoever put the instructions out there for key programming have TRULY had the last laugh and I commend you for it. I've now tried to program in 2 eBay knockoff keys and now a full fledged factory correct key, ordered by car VIN, from the dealer and my 2005 is NOT having any bit of it.

The only programming sequence that does anything is the key in/out x 5 and door open/shut x 6 but the key never takes the damn programming. The security light blinks it's funky programming-mode blink pattern and it never goes off. This, again, has now occurred with 3 keys, all the correct part number, 2 different knock-off keys and finally the 180.00 factory key. NONE of them work.

The "delete all keys but the master" sequences do not do anything. Neither of the methods- either gas/brake or ignition/door cycles. I've done them a million times. My neighbors probably think I've lost my mind.

As die-hard of a DIY guy as I am, I see absolutely no choice but to go to the dealer to get this done.

For my own sanity has any living human being actually added a key to a 2005 LC?

Are you trying to program the immobilizer or the keyless entry part?

I know you can do the keyless entry part but never knew you could program the immobilizer with out the techstream/dealer.

You confirmed you have a master key?

Were these the steps you followed?

Program a New Key (2003+):

  1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
  2. Insert your existing master key into the ignition. Do Not Turn!
  3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
  4. Within 20 seconds open and close the “driver side” door 6 times and remove key.
  5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
  6. Turn the ignition cylinder ON and leave on for two minutes.
  7. Turn ignition cylinder OFF and remove new key
  8. Open and close the “driver side” door 1 time.
  9. After 60 seconds new key is registered and Security light goes off.
  10. Depress and release brake pedal 1 time to terminate programming.
  11. Insert new key and observe security light goes out.
  12. Start you Land Cruiser to confirm operation.

Seems pretty straightforward :rimshot:

I had to get the dealer to do it with a new key, the above sequence and other google variations were mute on my 2004. I could get most of the way but wouldn't take it. Just the beginning of the non-diy cars.... :(

Here is a collection of threads, some related to the immobilizer:

100 series cranks but won't turn over / start

I'm really happy to announce that after buying a 25.00 USB cable and installing Techstream on an old XP laptop I was able to code the immobilizer and remote portion of the new keys with EASE. No more door opening/shutting/key in out/do-the-hokey-pokey BS for me! Huge relief that it was so easy with Techstream. Highly recommended method particularly in the newer trucks.

Extra keys are on my list. Is it an obvious and straightforward process? I haven't searched any on it yet and wasn't sure I would need Techstream. Seems like the primary use for it is checking your AHC pressure.

I had read your post before and after seeing the requirements to set up a new key, I was gonna pay the dealership to do it. DIY is preferred though.

Techstream makes it super easy. it just walks you through a wizard to do it. Pure joy, basically, after wrestling with the alternatives for hours.
It goes something like this:

When I search Techstream, I am finding offers to purchase it for over $1300 - is that what you guys are shelling out, or I am missing something?

I will say that the cable comes with everything you need except a computer.

An old XP laptop makes things easier, but you can use a virtual machine on 64-bit windows/OSX, or you can do a little tweaking on a Win 7/8/10 laptop and run it natively.
