Hi everybody. Ive never posted in the 60 series section before so this is a bitter sweet first for me.

My friend just bought this cruiser: https://forum.ih8mud.com/ma-nh-yankee-toys/230658-shes-sale-84-fj60-$2300-vermont.html

https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/152561-landcruisin60s-total-frame-off-rebuild-7.html

And we were driving it home from way the hell outa nowhere VT and about half way home it started coughing and sputtering. he was having to peg the throttle to keep it alive and the second we hit a rest stop and he slowed down it just died on him.

So we poked and prodded at it for a bit, then pulled the choke out and made it to a gas station. We found a couple things up with it. When we opend the air cleaner cover there was a ton of water and oil condensed on the walls of the air box and inside the carburetor.

Also we crawled under the truck and found some kinda catlyit converter anal probe thing hanging down doing nothing. So we stuck the cat rectal thermomiter thingy back in its place and called it done. (went back in ultra loose like it might come back out again)

So we threw some drygas in the tank had him fill up again and shot a little ether down the carburetor to try to burn up any of the watter in the carb.

All in all it worked fairly well, but its not running perfict. Can anyone tell me why that cat probe thingy was loose? And anyone maybe who has rebuilt a 2f carburetor might be able to tell me what to go purchase in terms of parts before we rebuild it.

Oh and maybe tell me the proper name of that thing so I dont have to keep calling it the catylit converter anal probe? :hillbilly:

Thanks a lot guys.

HAHA!!! I love it. The anal probe is a temp sensor for the air injection system on the truck. If the temperature inside the cat isn't within the proper range, this system will inject more air to get the cat hotter so it can work properly.

As for the carb, go down to your local dealership or parts store and pick up a carb rebuild kit. It should have a secondary diaphragm in it ( straight metal end, not angled ) as well as a new accelerator pump and all the gaskets you need.

That truck is awesome, so good luck with it's problems!

Where did the oil come from. sure it hasn't blown a head gasket?
Also how new is the fuel filter. I had a piece of plastic break free and block the filter just enough to starve the beast. Had me confused for ages as the fuel was getting into the filter but not getting out

the temp sensor falls out because the piece that is supposed to hold it in has rusted off. mines just zip-tied up out of the way on my truck.... runs fine

checked the fuel filter (pulled it out and put it to my lips pfft ewww) but it wasn't clogged at all so no problems there. My guess about the oil is that the rings are ancient and are lettin oil get past and into the head and maybe somehow finding its way through the carburetor through vacume or something.

So I can weld just fine, is there something i can buy from toyota to reattach to the temp sensor or should I just weld the sucker in place?

I'm sure a tack weld would be fine. The system probably doesn't work anyway.

Is the smog pump still operational? ( under the power steering pump )

There should be a new mount for the cat temp sensor either in the glove box or center console. The carb was supossedly rebuilt by the guy I bought it from and the engine was rebuilt about 70k miles ago by the owner before last who is on mud somewhere... Sorry to hear about the crappy running.
