PC's are a great street tire...

Probably going w/ MTrs...once I get a little more $$$ thanks for all the help

Sammy,
Remember the 2 sidewall punctures I got with the pro comps???? (John Bull Trail and Miller Trail) Maybe it was bad luck or bad wheeling but I never had those with the Bridgestones or the Toyos.

Sorry, I've been out of the scene for a bit. When you say MTRs, what specific tire are you referring to. Sorry for the ignorance.

its all about the BFG T/A KM2 or the mickey thompson MTZ tires both good on highway and offroad.

If $$ is no object then yes KM2s, BUT I ended up riding on Nitto Mud Grapplers and they've not only kicked ass on the trails so far, but they track very nicely on the road.

I will probably go with the BFG's next though, I like that they are 14.5" wide

JohnnyFJ... Get your information straight before you yap about things you obviously do not know. Only one Pro Comp tire is made in China and that's the XAT (Xtreme All Terrain), all other sizes and styles are MADE IN AMERICA (Cooper Tire). I've been running the XAT for about 2 yrs on my 2500HD and havent had a problem. They been in mud, sand and they perform pretty well. I've seen guys at local trails and they seem to like the tires. They are probably not the best mud tires in the market, but they'll get you out of trouble. I have a set on my all my 55's, from my DD's to my trail rig.

dAMN, SON. No reason to get pissy.....

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is a global company specializing in the design, manufacture and sales of passenger car, light truck, medium truck, motorcycle and racing tires, as well as tread rubber and related equipment for the retread industry. With headquarters in Findlay, Ohio, Cooper Tire has 39 manufacturing, sales, distribution, technical and design facilities around the world.

Tire Business - Tire Plant Codes

Look at the code that's molded into the side of the tire. The first two letters or number and letter identify the tire plant that manufactured the tire.

The last three numbers give the month & year of manufacture.

Son... Please, no one is pissy. Research baby, it helps when you're trying to prove a point.

All except 3 tires are made in China... XAT 31x10.5x15, 265/75/16, 285/75/16. Cooper Tire is a global manufacture, but Pro Comp Tires are built in Ohio, of course with the exception of the ones mentioned above.

i ran 35" micky t mtz's, 35" mtr's, 33" bfg ats, 37" radial plied tsl swampers, and now 42" bias plied iroks on my 80

the 37" radial swampers ran as nice down the road as the 35" mtr's. i drove the swampers from fresno cali to prescot Az with the whole fam on one occasion. ran 70mph down the hwy the whole trip and wheeled the piss out of the swampers in AZ.

And the swampers out wheel the mtrs anyday. do the radial tsl swampers

I ran them both, although they were both 35x12.5x15's. The x-terrain was a better on-road tire. It worked better in the rain, and I had better handling than the MTR's.

The x-terrains were new (in 2002) when I bought my 4runner, and my MTR's I bought new in 2000 for a previous project.

After 3 months using the x-terrains, I put the MTR's on my '85 4Runner. I was happy I did too.

Where it failed (and bad) was climbing any sort of rock. The tire would not conform around rocks like the MTR would. I am guessing that is because of the super large tread blocks. I wanted to groove the centers out of the x-terrains to see if it would help, but decided not to bother.

Later I tried to swap to 35" sx's, which were again too siff for my liking, 36" sx's, which were not round enough to my liking, and 37" X-terrains, which ended up being too big for the truck. Every time the truck had the MTR's back on it within 2 weeks.

My biggest complaint about the MTR was that the sidewall was very stiff for a radial. It gave the illusion that I had a much stiffer suspension than I really did. This in turn helped bend a few axle housings.

9 years later, I sold my truck with the MTR's on it. They had seen Hollister, Big Bear, the Hammers, Rubicon, Fordyce, and a bunch of small trails in between. No problems, no sidewall cuts, not even a hint of the tread hardening up. They still conformed around rocks great, but for some reason had a hard time catching edges because they were so worn down. By this last summer, I knew it was time to retire the set of tires. I ended up retiring the entire truck with them.

I'm sold on the MTR.

I will rephrase my comment, I should have said X Terrains and other products ie lift kits and shocks. I have owned a set of these and for you light weekend wheel they are a cheap MT tire, but if you are going to use for any kind of rock crawling you are wasting your time and money.
