I finally got fed up with the wonky choke cable on my '82 FJ60.
It got very sticky - hard to pull out, hard to push in, and then I found that thin collar that held the housing in the dash was just popping off when I'd try to push the choke in.

So I ordered one of the new ones, and figure that I'll decipher the wiring and install a lamp in the dash to show when the choke is pulled out.

However, when I tried to remove the previous cable, I ran into some issues.
The tiny set screw in the knob was absurdly resistant to removal, such that, even with an appropriate sized screwdriver tip (it really should be an Allen screw!), it has stripped, with ZERO motion. SO I looked more closely at the knob and discovered that, at the back of what I had expected to just be a plain black Choke knob (similar to the one on the new cable), the back of the knob shows an uneven hemisphere of putty-white stuff, extending almsot a half inch back from the knob.
I suspect that some previous owner EPOXIED the knob on!

Was this a common fix? Seems unwise.
So it looks like I am going to have to hacksaw through the choke rod, to be able to remove it and install the new one. (I normally try to keep old parts around as spares.)
