Anyone seen this happen before?

Employee probably just cost us 20k in damages today...

I'm afraid to see what we'll find downstream tomorrow..

wow, good nobody was standing there...

metal looks pretty thin on that end

so, what happened to the pressure relief valves?

Guy has 20 years of experiance, turned the pump switches to manual, instead of auto and drove away..

2 10hp pumps, wouldn't take long to overwelm any p&r valve.

bet that was loud when it went..

Crazy thing is, the employee involved didn't hear a thing, I found out when one of my formen discovered it 15 minutes later. Glad it was on a weekend, could see me or someone trying to shut everthing at the meltdown point.

WOW

That is what insurance is for but still gonna cost a bit.

I talked to the owner, and he doesn't think insurance will cover gross negligence re; an employee..

Any good news I can give him?

Edit: The head/end of the tank was not moved there by human hands, could have easily wiped out the electrical panels.

I'd say your $20K estimate is way low.

what was in that thing?

Water...

We are still chasing underground breaks in the 6" main downstream of the tank (kinda like a compression fracture when everything moved west about 8 feet). There are around 150 2" soleniod valves fed off this system also, who knows what lies ahead there.

Dan, hope your right re; insurance, we may be collecting on crops also if we can't get water to them in time. The boss is going to call them tomorrow.

You know, I was standing next to a 300L tank when pressure made it let go. That was LOUD. I can't imagine how loud this one was.

wow. impressive carnage.
probably good thing it was water and not gas/air, at least the explosion should have been somewhat less.

good luck.

You'll be chasing those for a while.
The water hammer effect of that thing blowing will be nasty..

So far so good, although I suspect your right. We just ran a temporary line from the system on the adjacent property. Knock on wood, no more bad news of yet.

Still waiting for a quote from the well contractor...

A little tin knocking and welding and it will be as good as new again. Why didn't it have a pressure releif valve?

It did, that's what went first.

Mace, they make those things in 4 or 6"? and does anyone use them?
