The 4X4 shifter on my 1990 LJ78 will engage the 4 wheel drive system however it takes both hands to move the shifter. Is there some way to lubricate the shifter so that it moves more easily?
Thanks.............................1978HJ45

Check the bushing on the shifter shaft. It can get tight when there is dirt or corrosion between the parts.

The cause of the problem is not using 4WD enough...

Thanks guys...........I talked to Dan ( 4 Wheel Auto ) in Canada and he basically agrees with "Radd Cruisers" and suggested the previous owner probably did not use the 4 wheel system often enough and spraying a lubricant while exercising the shifter would most likely help. Thats where I will start and hopefully it will not be a more serious issue. Again thanks.........................1978HJ45

A lot of them go like this if they are not used often enough
