I got the tub off of my 40 today and I want to power wash it. There is no rust, just 42 years of dirt and grime. Problem is that I have never used a power washer in my life, so I have no idea what to look for when it comes to capacity.

From looking around, it seems that they sort of run the gambit from smaller electric ones to larger gas powered ones. My gut always says go with the biggest I can get.

I don't see buying one, if I have never used one up till this point, not sure why I would need to own one, so does anyone of any suggestions for good rental places in the Chandler area?

Home depot rents equipment - keep posting up pics of your progress if you would :wrench:.

I will. I have a build thread over in the 40 tech section,

But I have to be honest, it has been pretty slow going. The wife is still out of work, so the household budget is stretched to it's breaking point. My work has been insane for the last 2 months, and I finally got a chance to take a week of this last week. I am hopeful that I will be able to put enough money together and get enough done to get all the fab work done for the project once it starts getting cool out. I would love to have her all done by the end of the year.

Power washers are nasty, messy things, but are effective. I would strongly recommend the local coin op car wash. All of the grease you hose off will land on and stick to anything close, you, the driveway, house, etc. The trick to using them is to hit every square inch from a couple of angles, so higher GPM rigs make a larger effective cleaning spot, reducing the time/effort needed to get the job done.

With the frame exposed like that, I would box the rear like this.

If Claudia can break it, I'm sure you can break it, too. :princess: :flipoff2:

So: brace the rear spring hangers, box the rear frame, and - as we recently learned - box the frame at the front shackle hanger. :D

passenger side that is

I never thought about boxing the rear of the frame, but it isn't a bad idea. As for the front, I am going with a shackle reversal.

When you are putting that rock magnet on the right front, compare it to the left front frame horn. The left side is boxed, the right is open, the spring load causes this to slowly collapse, often cracking, then the spring mount coming off of the frame. My guess is; it would be much easier to weld a couple of support straps on with the rig apart, than deal with it on the trail?:hillbilly:

Crap, I have been checking out rental prices for power washers. Guess I won't be cleaning stuff up for awhile.

... shouldn't be more than 35-40 a day at HD I think they rent half days as well. I'd get it for the whole day and make use out of it. Wash the house, drive way, garage floor facia boards, under body of other cars etc and itl seem like a bargain. Its amazing how much better a house and a garage door look after a quick spray down. Best bet would be like Tools said though and throw it on a trailer and leave the mess at the carwash if you have a trailer that would be cheap as well.

I've a small electric unit you can borrow for as long as you need. Will get the job done, just more slowly.

Are you planning to use the Man A Fre kit? I did and I like it. Remember it will give you about 1.5 inches of lift by itself. Buy your springs accordingly.

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on it, but we don't live as close to each other as we used to. I still need to talk to you about those power supplies, but it is pretty far down on my work priority list at the moment.

I am. I have seen a few 40's with that kit and really like the looks of the setup.
