Good morning everyone,

As part of preventive maintenance I'm replacing all the power steering hoses including the kit for the high and low pressure hoses coming off the steering rack. I've done quite of bit of searching here and while I can find a lot of how to remove steering rack threads there is no indication on how to get the hoses removed without removing the rack.

The hoses are in such a tight spot. A/C Compressor is right over them so no room to grab from the Top. They are side ways so can't access from front and they are at an angle right next to part of the truck frame so what gives?

Anyone have any advice or trick to get to these? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

I have done the rack but not the hoses. Thinking from the rack thread, unbolting a motor mount and jacking engine up an inch might work for hoses.

Man that sucks all that to take out a bolt?

@savirc how did you get the hose out? I am ordering the power steering hose kit today as my high pressure side is leaking.

Flare nut tools are handy.

@2001LC thanks for the information. Harbor freight is not to far from me if it comes to that.

Tip: After sitting your rigs front end on jack stands. Poor the fluid out of the reservoir into container and then pull the return line from it. Rout the return line into a catch can. Engine off, turn steering wheel lock to lock slow until no more fluid comes out.

@2001LC thanks for the information on power steering flush. I found several posts on this including yours. However I did not find any write up on replacing power steering hoses, specifically pressure side power steering hose. I will take plenty of photos and write up what I find out.

Look under steering in my master link. You should find some helpful info. I don't really do step by step. My stuff is more overview and assume some mechanical skill. Good luck.

Tip: I like the newer gasket (washers). They are easier to work with.

Make sure to hold lower part of nut (pressure port union) on vane pump as you break loose union bolt on top of HP line.

Get what ever you must out of your way.

Pay attention to routing. Pictures to refer back are so helpful.

I'll be doing anther HP line in near future, on and 07LX GrayGal. Keep and eye on my signture. If your not done by then, I'll put some detail in a thread for you. Or just ask here and I and others will help out.

Thanks for the tips.
I just checked out your link, you show two different part numbers for gaskets 44327-30030 and 44327-30040.
I am checking local dealer I order OEM parts from online and they only show part # 44327-30040 for both Hose & Tube Assembly Gasket, Right & Hose & Tube Assembly Gasket, Left ....
Are they different sizes? I think I only need one.

I plan on ordering the aftermarket part by Sunsong (https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7660180&cc=1431006&jsn=852&jsn=852) as it is way cheaper ($300 less than OEM - only $93) part. I typically only do OEM but that part seems kind high.
I will keep old part and get it rebuilt should I need to at a hydraulic hose shop, there are none close by to me.

You can use 44327-30040 for both. The difference is the spread (thin metal holding apart) but size of washers/gaskets the same. I've swapped them before, when dealer didn't have one or the other. The old style on vane pump side do not have a connection spreading them apart, they are two separate washers. So a little harder to place in position as you assemble.

I too purchased a cheap Sunsong from RA. I've not tried it out yet, but should be fine. I purchased just the HP line not both HP & LP.

03-07 and 99-02 are different assemblies. Mainly the LP line in 03-07 we can buy OEM return hose to res. 98-02 Toyota only sells as a complet hose assembly so we use a 3/8" ATF cooler line as a low cost replacement alternative

I wonder if I will need Mr. T's gasket then since Sunsong has the gaskets?

With my Sunsong HP line, yes. But as I said, the newer (03-07) OEM gasket easier to use. The 4 washer Sunsong give are not connected.
