power steering pump rebuild

Is it possible to just remove the back cover of the PS pump without removing the gear?

yep... back cover comes off with a lot of pressure inward, and a big spring clip. the gear is the last thing i pull for some reason.

I got the clip off, but it seems like the back plate is lodged in there from me pushing down to get leverage on the clip. Should I apply pressure on one side to pop that cap up?
