Hey all,

Normally not in this section, but my neighbors got a 94 4-runner. We swapped out the power steering pump this past weekend and now it has white smoke coming out the tail pipe after turing the wheel a few times. WTF?

It eats up the fluid like crazy and not a drop goes on the ground, so it must be burning it.

Is there a check valve that could be broken? A vacuum line possibly? Any help would be appreicated.

I assume this truck has the 3.0L V6 engine.

There should be a vacuum connection somewhere that makes the idle increase when you are turning the wheel. My bet is that vacuum device has a leak in it, and allowing PS fluid into the intake. Try temporarily blocking these vacuum hoses, see if the problem goes away.

I don't have a V6 at my disposal anymore, so I'm going from memory on this.

Thanks for the inputs fellas, I'll check the line out first chance tomorrow.

It is the V6 3.0L, should have mentioned that in the original msg.

Jon
