How can I tell if its the power steering pump and not the master cylinder?
thanks in advance. weird it kinda turns right but not left.

Joe

Master cylinder is brakes, not power steering.

Is the pump making noise? Is fluid level correct? Could be steering box. Was this sudden, or progressive? What symptoms are you actually experiencing? Need more info for a better starting point.

no noise, yes I checked the fluid level first!.. will not turn left at all...it will slightly turn right, I'm on 37's so it feels like a flat tire and and unable to turn.
checked the belt too

1997 Lx450 on 37's... I was thinking those tires took their toll on the pump?

I'm no seasoned pro, but if it were me, I might jack up the front axle and feel/inspect while turning wheel side to side, engine both off & on, and go from there.
lol...the truck is lifted, no jack required to get underneath and take a look around....already took a peek didn’t see anything leaking or out of place. I'm guessing itll be the steering pump. just thought I'd ask a versed mudder here, since I thought the master cylinder had something to do with it. duh!
thanks for the suggestion though.

@SpenserAK means put it up on jackstands and turn the steering wheel back and forth.
Your big, bad ass 37s aren't going to just take your pump out. Seeing how you still haven't said what you were doing when it started acting up, and you mentioned the master cylinder, were you pushing buttons and turning knobs that you don't know what they do, so you have it locked up on pavement?
Did you try a search at all before your post, or just wanna be spoon fed?

I get the clearance thing re: working underneath. Same here. I meant lift the axle so tires are elevated & free to turn - not simply for a static visual. Could help spot/feel the weak point... steering box, PS pump, etc.

I'm curious where the master cylinder thought comes from.

I didn't write that 😂 he quoted me, and no "ass" on his part.

With the resilient nature of the 80, I'm genuinely positive you'll be fine. Curious what you find to be the issue & please report back.

OK, THE POST OF SHAME!.... it was the e-locker switch activated. I feel so DORKY. In my defense, I could not see the activation light on in daylight.
I dont know what I was thinking when I said master cylinder "PANIC" i guess, thinking such an expensive repair so close to christmas.
thanks again Spense!

Joe.

Zero cred to me. No asses here.

Glad you're working it out.
