The up and down adjustment for the front of the driver seat on my 99 stopped working. When the switch is moved the motor makes noise, a louder noise than ususal, but the seat does not move. The rest of the power movement functions work properly.

Any experience, insight, knoweledge on what it will take to fix this?

I'd like to do it myself, but seek your input before taking the thing apart.

Anyone have any experience or ideas on this?

The only thing I can add is the motors are different for the driver and passenger seat. In other words you can not just switch them.

Did you look under the seat and make sure nothing is binding the motor?

Thanks for the advice. I looked but difficult to see without removing the plastic around the seat, I'll do that to look closer.

Sorry, old thread...but has anyone ever solved this, or replaced the motor? Interested in more details, as I am going to have to tackle this same problem.

Me too. Just bought '01 LX and all functions work save for the rear-most portion of the seating surface. It is stuck in the up position. When I move the switch up, I hear the click. When I move it down, to lower the rear portion of the seat bottom, no click. I'd like to replace the switch, but I'm having o luck finding the part #.

Also, could anyone tell me if the LC and LX of this vintage share the same part number?

Sounds very similar to my driver seat. The main seat height adjust motor will make noise (different from all other motors) but no movement in the seat. What I found after I removed and disassembled my seat was that a nylon gear inside the worm gear drive was stripped and the motor was just free spinning when powered. Have never been able to find a part number for the gear or gear drive assembly...

Gamiviti.com has seat repair gears for the 80 series which also fit other Lexus and Toyota vehicles. They also have a product suggestion form. Might be about time to spin up production for the 100 series...

I investigated this same issue on my 99. The passenger seat was all the way up in the front and back putting it in a very awkward position. From what I could find, the worm gears that operate the rods that move levers controlling the adjustments are stripped out. With no resistance on the rods, they would operate as they should. However, when any pressure was applied the assembly would lock up and make that terrible noise we are familiar with. I manually adjusted the seat then unplugged the motors so a passenger can't accidentally adjust to full height again.

Unbolt your seat and tilt it back. Be careful not to stress the power wires to the seat. You will quickly see the 3 motors (4 on driver side IIRC) that control the seat functions. Study it a little closer and you will understand how they work. The only problem is I haven't been able to find replacement motor assemblies. Actually, all we need is the plastic gearbox attached to the end of the motor.

Thank you for your responses. I guess I will manually adjust the seat down and unplug that potion of the switch as @87warrior did.
Anyone know if the LC and LX seats are identical as far as their power options and adjustments go?
