At URE last month, when I discovered there wasn't a place to plug in at the bathhouse, I ended up relying on CaptainCrunch's FJC as a power source.

As a birthday present, Laura surprised me with a Schumacher power inverter model X141DU for those times when we go camping and there's no power and for long car trips in the Odyssey to run the girls' games or a laptop. I like that it is made in NC, has a place for a USB cable and that I can hook it up directly to the battery (a good idea considering the age of the 40).

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about this mfg. and model?

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

I've heard it is a quality product although I didn't know it was made in NC.

It's a very low wattage unit so you won't be able to run somethings off of it but a lap top shouldn't be a problem.

I like that it is made in NC...

Turns out it is made in China and the company is based in IL. :doh:I should have done some research before writing my initial post. I thought I was repeating what the salesman told my wife. Upon further questioning, she can't recall what the company's ties to NC are.

I think the key question here is can you power up a pump for an air mattress with it? If so then it's a good one. :hillbilly:

Air mattress pumps are a dime a dozen.

IMHO one for camping needs to do the following.
Lap Top
Phones
Blender (mixed drink time baby)
Hair Dryer for the :princess:

If the rig doesn't have OBA then also to run some corded power tools.

You can power a tv and a satellite dish with that. ;)

Really?? I thought that would be too much for one that small.

I was meaning to ask you anyway, can you start a new thread and detail your set up. Got friends and family that i'm trying to get into camping and doing something like that may be the only way to get their foot in the door.

There is not to much setup involved. Just an old dish from directv and a box. I did download an app for my iphone that helps in pointing it. Called Dishpointer. I usually look on google maps if I've go a good view of the Southern shy. For Directv you have to point it South Southeast. You can buy fancy stands and portable dishes but for me this works better I just use a box from home and an old 3lnb dish. You could probably find a dish for cheap on Ebay.

The TV is just a cheap little tiny one. I'm betting you could go bigger if you used a flat screen. In the past I've used a cheap 400w unit. Worked just fine for the dish and tv. Just need to look at your TV's power usage.

For the bigger events where I can drive the 80 I'll bring the projector. It actually doesn't use that much power maybe 200w or so. But I did go with a 1000w inverter because I wanted to power the stereo. Thats it nothing fancy. If your using anything over 400w I'd suggest connecting it straight to the battery. I use an old set of jumper cables.

It was a joke referring to the time we had getting mine inflated the Friday we got there. :grinpimp:

Update - Yesterday I hooked the inverter's cables up directly to the battery in the 40 and I was able to inflate an air mattress. I think this one is going to work well for my family's needs.

Eric, I've got you covered for the next time you need help inflating your air mattress. :)
