First time poster, have been lurking for a while.

We bought a beautiful 2013 Land Cruiser a few months ago and it's been a great truck. The wife was backing it out of the garage and the driver side mirror wacked the side of the house which rotated it back.

Everything still works fine but it's like the motor is out of phase or something. It thinks the broken forward position is the normal driving position now. You can tell this is the case because the passenger mirror in the standard position has almost no play when you move slightly with hands. The broken forward or reverse positions have maybe 10 deg of free play. Now the drivers mirror has no play in the broken forward position but 10 deg play in the standard driving position.

Hopefully what I wrote makes sense. Anyone know the best way to go about fixing? I am pretty sure there is a gear or something that just needs to be reset to the standard driving position.

Thanks very much for any all help!
(Note I did a search before posting but couldn't find anything, apologies if it's already discussed elsewhere)

Here is what I would try: (maybe you've already tried this)

-Press the fold down button so that you know it "thinks" they are folded inward.
-With your hand, move the goofy mirror (which I assume is still sticking outward) all the way back to the normal folded position. It may give you some resistance, but don't worry. They are designed so that being forced to move isn't critically bad.
-Now press the button again. Unless it is internally screwy, it may well pop back into place.

If it STILL won't recover, have Toyota look at it. Could be a quick fix.

Similar situation happened to us, though we were at a car wash and didn't fold the mirrors. Now they mirrors are exactly as you describe.

I'd be interested to see how this turns out.

Mine did the same thing with the DS mirror after some car wash guys messed with it.

I cycled the power fold a few times and it fixed it.

Like others Saif, cycle the power fold a few times or try to manually fold the mirror shut and then back to the standard position, you should hear a loud click when it snaps back into place and that click will sound like you broke something.

Well I messed with it a good 30 minutes doing everthing everyone said to try. Even opened it and slammed it hard the opposite way like when it hit the side of garage but in reverse. Nothing changed (other than bruising my ring finger) and I gave up defeated.

Next day wife texts me saying I'm the best husband and I can fix anything.

Of course I accepted the praise.

In conclusion mess with it until you give up and it will magically fix itself come morning!

Ummm, now that I recall how I fixed mine, I did turn the truck off and re-start it in there somewhere. I bet that's what fixed it, and not the powerfold cycles.

:-)

I gave up on our DS side mirror. It was over compensating itself. Tried slamming it, restarting it, cycling it, etc. just became annoyance whenever I started the car. So, ordered a new OE piece online and replaced it. The only thing I had to do with the OE replacement piece was transfer the painted casing from old to new. It already has the mirror. Besides that, pretty simple to take off the door panel and take off 3 nuts.
