This seems to be the week for a few minor things to happen. The beeper that makes the sound when locking and unlocking the doors with the fob has stopped beeping most of the time. Maybe once in 15 cycles it works. So someone does not ask, the actual locking mechanism is fine so is the "door open" alarm. I have the FSM but I see no mention of this sounding indicator there. Any thoughts, suggestions please.

Mine does the same thing, FWIW. I just don't care :D :grinpimp: :D

on mine it was the connections between the piezo and the controller. The piezo wires where larger than the controllers and the splice used was too big for the controller wires and they got loose. I just soldered them together and ditched the connector. You can find them behind the DS kick panel.

Rick a connection in the cab is the problem? you do have the RS3000 correct?

I figured it would be the conection right at the piezo under the hood,

Yes I have the RS3000. The leads on my piezo where long enough to enter the cab and the connection was made inside.

Mine does that too, but I think I figured out why. If I get in the truck and start it up before the wife gets in, the doors automatically lock. When this happens, I have to press the unlock button on the door to let her in. When we reach our destination, and get out of the Cruiser when I press the FOB, I get the chirp. It must have something to do with the programming of the module. I can't remember if I manually lock or unlock the door from the door switch to reverse it back to silent, but it worked! I don't like the "Chirp". I think there was also a post recently to unplug the piezo under the hood. That could help as well. It drove me crazy for the longest time. Hope this helps!

"Chirp" that's the word - not a beep. Anyhow I use the fob exclusively so it's not like for the reason offroadkid has. What is the piezo under the hood? Where do i find a diagram of this connection in the FSM or can you describe where to find it and I will check this connection. With it sometimes working and sometimes not a bad connections seems a logical reason.

hmm wonder if that is another LC / LX diffrence, when I took apart that 97 LX the laram harness was marked LX450,

anyway on the 450 the piezo plugs into the factory harness under the hood, the transfer through the firewall is made in the main factory harness.

I probably should have taken a picture before I started playing with it my piezo was dead gonna slice in a new one, but here are the reamains of the piezo and its stub harness. I cut the leads (same wire all the way from plug into piezo)

is this diffrent or the same as the Land cruiser?

btw the piezo was made in Ohio and is 10w.

Mine didn't beep or chirp, so I found a replacement at Radio Shack. They have a bunch to choose from. It's more of a cool "AHRRRR" now. :D Oh, and it was $2.89

AHRRR? Is that more manly or feminine? My LX has no audible sound other than the power lock mechanism. Sounds like I need to find my piezo.

James, yours may just be disabled. If you have teh same alarm, I have the printout for able/disabling the features. If it's enabled and then not working, THEN you will go piezo hunting.

When I had my Tundra and was playing with it over on Tundrasolutions.com some of the guys over there wanted to still hear their "chirp" but didn't want it to noticeable. A simple piece of electrical tape over the piezo and it will deaden the sound to the point of where if you are by your truck you can hear it but it knocks it down quite a bit. Just something to throw out there.

Thanks guys. I seem it was the piezo as poking a screwdriver in it and a few whacks got it working. However when I followed the lead back through the fire wall I could not come to or find a connector to allow me to replace the unit as shown in the picture. Shall I just yank on the lead until something appears?

From Ricks description I think the LX450 has more pre-wiring for the alarm and that your Land Cruiser will be diffrent than the picture above.

both my 96 and the 97 LX450 I took apart has a plug under the hood for the piexo in the factory harness.

I just did a piezo replace on my 96 LC. The factory piezo replacement part did not have a plug. When I it back under the dash, it looks like it was spliced at the dealership.

Then might I just cut the piezo off and attach some other sound maker. Is this pieze the same noise maker for the alarm? Anyone know of something that would work? I guess its just straigt 12vdc

On the LX450 the noisemaker for when the alarm is set off is the horn, I would assume the same for your LC?

Roll down the window, close the door, set the locks with the fob, then reach in unlock the door and open it, you will find out what the noise maker is for the alarm.

You should check and make sure that the connection in the cab Rick talk’s about is ok before you replaced the piezo, if that is the source of your troubles new piezo will not help.

I just replaced my piezo with a rat shack part # 273-059 , it was the lowest dB piezo they had there that had an internal driver, a little quieter might be nice but this one is not bad, cost just under $4, looks like a POS compared to the "factory" one don’t know how long it will last, but works for now, will be nice to have an audible indication of locked or unlocked.

The poin was I can not find that connection. I follow the wire and it disapears into a mass of spices as far as I can see. I need help to find the connector if there is one. IT IS NOT as in the photograph that has a short lead.

it cannot be hard to find, just follow the wires.

right got that, as I said above the photo is from an LX450, you do not have an LX450 so it will not be like the photo,

Rick like you has a Land Cruiser, his conencts in the cab like your truck, that is where he had problems.

So on the LX, is the piezo under the hood on the driver's side near the firewall?

My beeper is intermittent and I can find no rhyme nor reason for the pattern. I never use the switch on the driver's door handle to lock and unlock, so I am pretty sure that is not responsible. I do have times where someone unlocks and individual door after they have automatically locks when starting the engine, but I don't think that is it either. I have had times where I am sure I locked the door with the fob and it chirped, but upon returning to the car and pressing the fob, I get no chirp. If the idiots that designed the system with a "Lock" button and an "Unlock" button, it wouldn't be so much of an issue, but I find it quite annoying that one cannot tell whether the car is locking or unlocking when you press the button. With the chirp, it is clear.
