'88 62 series with power antenna.

has anyone changed out the mast? my motor works and runs the cord in and out, but the mast was bent over and broke off. what did you use as a replacement?

Hmmm...

I had the same thing going with my 1990 FJ62. I looked around to some of the vendors and found replacement parts available, but ended up going with the WagonGear CB/Radio antenna. I knew I wanted a cb but did not want a radio antenna and a cb antenna on the truck so I combined the two. In my opinion I get to get rid of a component that tends to break too easily and will be a source of problems in the future and go with a non-electrical/mechanical device that is less complicated and far more versatile for my needs.

The antenna is a one piece unit with the motor. I have had to replace several since my wife keeps forgetting to lower the mast when going to the car wash.

The mast can be replace separately from the motor unit and is much cheaper.
Mast only part number: 86353-14332
Entire assembly part number:86300-90A17

I did this a few months ago. Fairly easy job. Toyota Parts Overstock.

Agreed ,worst thing that kills the masts is ice, don't fool with moving them below 32 degrees. Mike

No cost antenna fix

Mine broke at the base. So I cut out the broken bit, shortened the nylon cord, reflanged the bottom the antenna, and put it back together. Shorter antenna now but it works. Link with pictures of the disassembled antenna is:

Didn't want to open a new thread for this. I have a working antenna but it won't raise and lower because it's not wired into the radio properly and there are no "power antenna" cables going into the harness. Is it ok to splice it into one of the 12volt wires on the harness?

I have the power antenna but the actual antenna is broken. Do I have to change the whole mast/antenna assembly? Meaning the nylon mast and the antenna?
Or can I simply order just the antenna piece from one of these aftermarket companies? Its much cheaper.

the antenna doesn't work with the radio, it has a separate switch on the dash to raise and lower the antenna.
at least on 62 series.

I called BENO with the above part# I think it was $40 for the mast and cord, I'll see how it goes in when the part arrives.

How much of your antenna is left? The top broke off of mine so I just pulled the cord slightly through the open top and pinched it off with some pliers. Ghetto fixed.

Welp, guess mine is out of order then. The button definitely doesn't raise it. Guess I'll have to do some investigating.

Old thread, but I have an on-topic question. My mast was stuck so I cut it off and now I have a replacement. the part came with the antenna mast with the plastic rod inside it, plus a new metal cover as shown in position 86301 below. The free end of the plastic rod gets crimped into the metal cover and the cover spins with the motor.

Is there any adjustment I need to do with the plastic rod relative to where it gets crimped? Do I just the crimp the plastic rod onto the metal cover near the end of the rod and any slack will be taken up by the motor spool? Or is the rod make long and I have to adjust the length, crimp and cut?

thanks!

Thanks for the part number guys got mine on order. Maybe I should buy two for the next time the wife kills it! Lol

Did you source through a dealer, or ? I replaced with an aftermarket through SOR and have struggled to get it to function properly, despite several install/remove/install...

I bought a dealer mast and took the whole thing apart, cleaned the guts, wound it all up inside, put it together, and it works fine. I would not trim any of the plastic actuator - the spool holds it all, and it clutched, so when the antenna is fully up, it just harmlessly slips.
