Finally found a forum hack that allows for a 60 minute edit time AND the ability to exclude specific user groups from it. It's implemented now, we'll see if it works...

I just did a posting and...... no edit function/button.
Refreshed the screen, still nothing.

My edit ability is expiring after an hour. It might be because I have a white star.

forgot that usergroup...should work - I hope...

I logged out and back in. No love.

EDIT AFTER FIVE HOURS: logged on from a different computer, seems okay now. Might need to clear cookies on my other machine or something. ;)

<whew> good thing, I wasn't sure where else to start flippin switches! lol

The edit button is gone on some of my old posts. Doesn't seem to relate to date or time.
Specifically, I would like to edit the marketplace thread in my sig, but it has no edit buttons, except for my 2 most recent posts.

Other posts in the tech forum seem to have the edit button in place.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can edit?

Thanks for any insight.

Recent issues required re-enacting a limit to editing. Sorry it had to change. If I come up with a better solution, I'll implement it.

It's currently set to 30 days.

Jim, I assume you are wanting to edit the first post of a thread...

I've found a plugin that should allow just that...first post editing remains unlimited, all following posts subject to time limits...will experiment and see how it works...

Thanks Brian! That fixed it.

I just edited the first post in the merchandise thread to update availability. The posts further down the thread are not very important (to edit). But for the merch & parting out section, I would think there are others who want to update the first post to reflect parts sales. Should help others in that situation.

Tweak is active on the Parting Out and Storefronts...glad it works :)

Will 'back off' the other limit then to a shorter time span.

2> Disgruntled members...came across one this weekend, member had not been online in months, but had gone thru at some point and edited all their posts to blank. Took some very useful tech threads and made the remaining info useless.

This partially applies to me as I've wiped attachments and now useless shipping quotes and chit-chat from some of my for sale threads. Not being disgruntled - just thinking I was being thorough.

Could you please add the "For Sale - Parts" thread to the list? Some folks sell multiple items in the same thread. It really helps if they update as items are sold off.

Woodrow, I still can't edit my first post in the clothing section. Oh well. But I did just edit this post. LOL

This would be great if it works as intended. I have several year old or greater threads that get updated occasionally.

For example a trip/expedition thread that underwent date/location revisions for 4-6 months prior to the beginning of the trip.

Also if I ever reorganize my photobucket, I'd like to be able to change links to match. I understand that starred members have unlimited uploads but restrictions to 3 per post occasionally make Photobucket or similar lucrative for telling a story.

F:censor: Spammers!

Hey Woody, I cant edit some posts either. The ones I am noticing are for some threads I started in the Classifieds. I normally go back and update items that are sold, or add some pics, a better description, etc. Can you open it up for the classifieds? I see you point for tech content though. Shame about the disgruntled ex-mudder.

EDIT- I could edit this too
