I also am pretty sure that Toyota calls their world standard transmission fluid is lifetime but most agree its at least 100,000 mile life

It's your Land Cruiser, spend what makes you happy. That said most dealerships will tell you that the happiest customers they have are the ones they make the most money on. I personally will follow the recommended service in the manual Toyota gives me with my truck. The dealership has tried to upscale me every time I have taken my 2020 tundra and LC in for service since they each left the free maintenance period. Fuel injectors cleaner. diff service, power steering fluid exchange. Ect . Each time I ask them to show me in the manual where these are listed. They inform me its their dealership recommended service not Toyotas.

You may feel like it's good to build a relationship with your adviser but it's no different than building a relationship with a pimp. Their job is to sell you as much as they can as they work on quota's and bonuses. They are never going to send you home with out recommending service. Ive worked in this field and know it's a massive profit center and not what I would call a honest relationship recommendation .

Again , if you want to spend your money this way then great, enjoy it.

Statements above are just my opinion and are worth exactly what you paid to receive them
@REKCUT

The last time I checked, the purpose of a business is to generate a profit. You formed an opinion based on looking at one page of a 60k service document.

Fair enough, I am being “pimped” and being financially taken advantage of. I must learn how to better navigate the business world, sigh. I must learn how to not be,taken advantage of by Penske/Wolfchase—and am apparently not bright enough to do so.

Greatly appreciated and thank you for helping me avoid financial ruin.

Since I am a loser with a 08, no dealer will talk to me. They only want HE owners.

Having said that, I called my local pimp to see what service he recommended to me and if there were any upsells.

He told me my regular girl is not there today. He mentioned some other skilled workers available.

However, sadly, he did not recommend any services, just told me do that my wallet can handle, but he did remind me take my blue pill, so as to avoid the embarrassment I faced last time.

@ryanCA

Hands down 100%. Best comment of the month and thank you.

People are far too serious around here. Sheesh!

@REKCUT

I’ve never gone over 60k miles in any automatic transmission vehicle owned without a proper flush/fill per OEM procedures.

That’s just me. Peace of mind as I love personally working on my recreational vehicles, but not my Land Cruiser/daily driver which I outsource to my trusted dealership.

Call it preventative maintenance. I also do a lot of maintenance considered unnecessary on all of my vehicles.

When you sell it, let me know – I'm tired of fixing my own car and could use one that works by magic for the next 100k miles!

World Standard Automatic Transmission Fluid
Important Information
  • 100,000 Mile Maintenance Interval — Inspection only; ATF-WS does NOT require any flushing or changing during the life of the vehicle.
  • The use of Genuine Toyota ATF-WS is recommended.
    • The use of additives or aftermarket fluids that are considered compatible or substitutes may result in shift concerns and damage to the internal transmission components.
    • ATF-WS is NOT compatible with T-IV or Dexron ATF.
  • Containers storing Toyota ATF-WS should ALWAYS be sealed — If exposed to the atmosphere, ATF-WS may absorb moisture and potentially cause shift concerns if used in operation.
  • One time use only.
    • When performing repairs on ATF-WS equipped transaxles, it is important to use only new, clean ATF-WS when refilling the ATM.
    • ATF-WS equipped ATMs may use the overflow type procedure — Any fluid drained from the overflow plug should be discarded following proper local regulations and never reused. Failure to do so could result in shift concerns and damage to the internal transmission components.

Yes, that was enough information on one page to form an educated opinion. Just my experience in the dealership world. You dont agree or like it that's fine. You want to classify yourself as being not very bright and gullible then again that is your description. If you like what you're spending your money on the more power to you. Doesn't change my opinion on that invoice

You said you’re satisfied with the service and that you would prefer the dealer do the work on your daily driver. Yet you should really be questioning the work they did. I don’t get why you haven’t questioned the fact they did a coolant flush yet only charged you for 1 gallon of coolant. I won’t even get into the other issues I myself see on just page one of this invoice.

You say you’ve put it on a lift and everything looks alright. Yet all the work they did besides greasing the u joints you can’t even see by just looking under the car.

I totally get you want the dealer to do these things but stuff isn’t adding up. You can’t just blindly trust the dealers these days.

I’ve walked into a dealer and asked for a gallon of super long life coolant. Parts guy asked if I wanted the coolant that is pre diluted or undiluted. I then told the parts guy that super long life coolant (pink)only comes pre diluted. And long life coolant (red) only comes undiluted. Guy then wanted to argue with me because he thought he knew more only because he works there. All that makes me wonder how they are treating the rest of the customers with coolant changes.

they are better than some independent shops—as I receive the benefit of Toyota dealership expertise/service and records.

I could say a lot about all this but Im not. But I will say there is no reason to think that a dealer service department has any more expertise than an indy shop.

@Union

Sorry and I’ve received offers.

I’m never selling this pig. I’m doing my best to run it to 250k easily in the next 5 years. My kids already are placing dibs on it when I get tired of it in another decade of family memories/adventure.

The funny thing is as some here already know—I love working on my cars, pickup, and motorcycles—but not my Land Cruiser. In fairness, my cars (especially my Chevelle SS) are more a labor of love and some require a lot just to keep them running smoothly.

I figure she’ll survive just fine with my 5k interval dealership maintenance unless I go bankrupt supporting the wretched yet ethical Toyota dealership service advisor and LC Toyota tech (my friends) based on how badly I’m getting ripped off according to some pundits here. 😂

Note: Worst case scenario is I fund someone’s dealership salary so they can put their kids through college.
