I'm building a 69' Series IIA 100" Land Rover and using a FJ80 steering box.

If I decide to upgrade to a 100 Series sector shaft and a Series 100 pitman arm doesn't have the correct drop and the FJ60/80 pitman arms won't fit on the shaft but can get one with the correct drop.

Question is, can a FJ80/60 pitman arm be rebroched to to fit on the Series 100 shaft?
Or can a Series 100 pitman arm be to be heated and bent by a shop with the right equipment?

I have a build page facebook.com/69Series2A/

Cheers, Allen

Good question, I'd like to know myself. I'm running an 80 box, but like you would like to upgrade and need the extra drop.

It might be able to, but seriously unlikely you’ll be able to find a shop with the correct broach.
Hard enough to find shops to broach the standard domestic splines.
You can cut, bend and weld the pitman arm to your liking.

Kind of what I was figuring as far as having on re-broached.

But as long as the pitman arm can me modified as needed then that’s good to know.

I’ll start out with the stock FJ80 sector shaft & pitman arm & get things figured out as far as what’s needed drop wise & go from there.

Aren't those pitman arms cast metal? Bending and welding would be a little more difficult.

Thanks mudgudgeon, at the moment I don't know what kind of drop I will need. In a few weeks when I get the chassis finished and the front springs & axle set, I'll be able to determine what drop is needed.

Just to double check, the HZJ105 and FZJ105 pitman arms fit the 100 Series sector shaft, correct? So if I use the FJ80 box & pitman arm to get everything lined up and working, when I replace the FJ80 sector shaft with the 100 Series sector shaft, either of the HZJ105 or FZJ105 pitman arms will fit the 100 Series sector shaft and have the same drop as the FJ80 pitman arm, correct?

Sorry to ask such a pedestrian question, but when reading posts, sometimes I can get things mixed up! lol

Cheers, Allen

A HZJ105 or fzj105 steering box and Pittman arm are a direct replacement for 80 series.

105 series have a solid front axle, basically the same chassis as 80series, and the same steering design.
100series have IFS suspension, a different chassis and I think rack and pinion steering.

So which sector shaft do I get to upgrade the FJ80 box?

Sorry to ask so many questions.
Do I use Series 100 sector shaft and a 105 pitman arm.

Or is the 105 sector shaft an upgraded FJ80 one, or is it the same as a FJ80?

Cheers, Allen

I believe (but not 100% certain) the105 sector shaft is the same as for an 80 series, but thicker at the splined end.
80sector shaft is necked down at the splines, 105 is not.

Ok thanks, from what I understand, the 100 Series sector shaft is the same thing.
Same size as the FJ80 shaft, but full diameter at the splines, not necked down like the FJ80.
So a Series 100 or a 105, would work because they are the same, from what I understand.

This is a picture of a FJ80 and Series 100 sector shafts, I found on Mud here, I think beno posted it originally.
But it shows the difference in the splined part of the shafts.

So, without wanting to be "that guy", 100series, and 105series are very different beasts. A 100 series will not have the sector shaft you need

Oh no worries, I appreciate the help figuring out which is which! :-)

Can be a bit confusing! Lol

Yes, 105 series sector shaft. I have an 80 series box with a 105 series shaft in my 60.
