Hey!

I have the possibility of buying an decent FJ55 pig. Few hundred thousand miles on it. Has been stripped down, rust cut out, metal welded in, rustproof coating, etc. Interior is halfway redone but needs seat upholstery. Paint is good but not perfect.

Needs basically nothing but not perfect.

How much should I spend on this? I'm looking at around the $6000 mark. Is this a good deal?

Sorry, no pics to post. Zero rust.

Thanks!

Pics would help, but not 6k even without seeing pics. An engine with a couple hundred thousand miles, have you even compression checked it. Could be about to die on you. And interior isnt complete. For 6k the interior should be done the engine should be strong and you should have the numbers to prove it. No rust.

Being from Boston, no rust usually means much more $$$. I have seen only 2 FJ55's in person in MA. Most are long gone. I figure the seats can be done up for about $400 at my upholstery guy. Engine is a concern but it is a 2F so it'll go. I'll check the compression.
Shouldn't they have a pig version of this cartoon?--->:shotts:

Yeah a pig version would be cool. Your right ne and se no rust does equal more $ but there a cutoff, and when you dont know how strong the engine really is that should be a big price drop to me. ClemsonCruiser and I just went and looked at an early 40 a few weeks back and he had been told it runs strong. After compression check we had #'s from 30 all the way up to like 130, major rebuild in order. So thats just an example of why I say not 6k.

post some pics man, $6k is a bit much, but it really depends on how nice the work that he has done, does he have pics outlining the process of the metal / body work? A nice restored fj55 would be around 6-10k I would guess, so it better be fairly good for 6k, also remember that if it is not running and a project vehicle, these are hard to move for a seller, better for you, not many people are willing to pick up a project like that. I got my pig project for $1500 bucks, came with a boatload of 40 and 55 parts, got 1k back from ebaying them. Truck has some rust but not too much, very clean for a 1970 pig. I would say keep your eyes open and start from scratch, they are out there and clean, you may want to consider finding one out west and flying out here to pick it up and trailer it home via uhaul, that's what I did.

Good info. I'll see how far I can get him down on price. I'll post some pics once I get them.

Body looks good in the pic but it cant show you 1/10 of what your eyes can. I'd tell him 500 less just for the time it will take you to remove that ugly bumper and those steps on the sides.
