Possible all terrain trailer....... (1 Viewer)

every time I see someone with wide tires and a very aggressive tread, on their trailer, I wonder Why?
I mean-- you want less traction on your trailer, not more. The only thing it has to do is not slide sideways.

I tow my trailer on sand, snow, and other soft terrain so I have 33x12.5's. I want my trailer to have flotation similar to the Samurai I tow it with, rather than digging in with skinny tires and acting like an anchor.

Skinny tires are for on-road trailers. Wide tires are for off-road trailers.

i'll defer to others on tire choice.... my experience was only a few thousand miles in baja over a 2month trip.

We HATED the trailer. Enough to drive all the way back to California to get rid of it.

it had 31x10.50 tires mounted, they didn't work well for our needs.

So I'm only speaking from negative experience, not "this worked for me"

But one thought: tall/skinny tires aired down flare out quite a bit

Thanks for the tips guys. I guess I need to do some more research on water tanks.

Couple poor pictures. Suspension is pretty much finished( have some shock mounts on the way), Fender/step is done on one side. Hopefully soon paint, then the fun stuff.:)

WOW...lots of work there!

Suspension looks awesome and the trailer it self is built like a brick $hit house! Great fitment of original body.

Love the 4 link. Any extra details on it?
What would you like to know?
All the links came off the rear of an fzj80. I set the uppers at 22.5 degrees each to make a 45, and I ordered the tabs from ballistic fab. Im pretty confident that this setup will work well. Once I get the shocks on and some psi in the bags ill know better, but I might end up running a sway bar, time will tell.
Ill have more time mid next week to work on it.:)

That about covers it. No to find a wrecked 80.

nice job-------------looks great so far------

Long overdue update.
Trailer is mostly 'completed', still have paint work to do. We just took it out for a week long trip and it performed wonderfully, better than I'd hoped for.:bounce::bounce: I really can't feel the trailer behind us at all. Got it on some dirt for a few miles and it did great.
Heres a few pics, ill post more detailed ones soon.....

I do plan no adding brakes at some point in the future. How will my suspension impact brakes?
A little late now, and I just saw this, but the impact would be reaction torque. A simple trailing arm can be problematic (brake induced dive), but the linkage that you used won't care about forces that trivial.

Tons of character in this one, that's for sure. Looks a little bit like a coffin carrier to me (don't know why), but the boat nose takes that down a notch. Cool suspension as well, nice build.

Well done!!!! I think that is turning out incredible.
