So I know someone, started a conversation last summer. "BE", one of the brands of generators they sell at Home Depot, are made with genuine Honda motors. Owners of the company are open to a group buy. I'm in no rush (still paying for xmas etc) but I wanted to gauge if there was any interest in this unit maybe this spring or early summer:

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/inverter-generator-2500-watt/994937

This gasoline powered inverter generator provides up to a max 2500 watts of electricity and 2200 watts running. Features low oil shut off and auto idle mode to improve fuel efficiency. Run time of 4.2 hours. Includes 1 x GFCI 120V duplex plug, and 12V DC.

  • Max 2500 Watts
  • Running 2200 Watts
  • Oil shut off feature to prevent engine damage
  • Auto idle feature to save fuel
  • 4.2 hours running time
  • 1 x GCFI 120V 1 x 12V DC

Isn't there a BE factory in Abbotsford?

http://www.bepressure.com/index.php?page=about-us

They may not make the inverters here, but perhaps contacting the factory directly, they may sell a bunch to the 'Coastal Cruisers Distribution Company' at a reduced cost. :D

So it will be cheaper then the $800 it is listed at? I was looking at buying a honda generator, but they cost over $1000 I think, if this is a similar unit with same engine, this might be a good route to go.
Cheers,

Yes, the owners, here in Abbotsford, are willing to do a group buy at a reduced cost for me. I want one for my trailer, wondering if anyone else in the club is interested.

Interested. Thanks

Are you still considering and was there enough interest for you to look at this?

Tnx

I have a 2500 watt Honda generator and it's too noisy for camping. Phil has a smaller one, maybe 1000 watts and it's quite quiet, we use it at Cruiser Day and nobody complains. However that may not be high enough output for a whole group. In any case we should listen to it's noise level before considering buying. I don't think the club treasury can afford a generator, we need the money for Cruiser Days and other expenses like the Christmas Party.

Really the new honda EU2000i is rated quitest in market, we used one ice fishing right on the steps of a camper all day night didn't even bother the guys in tents.

Like Brad says, this is what we've used at Cruiser days in years past

the EU2000 is for sure at the top of the list in this class however, i picked up a subaru robin 1700 a while back and i'm 100% happy with it. more often than not, we just run it right beside the campsite. it may be 1 or 2 db loader on paper but that may not even be noticable. it runs at idle for about 14 hours and that runs 3 ARB fridges and lED lights all night till noon the next day.

i was at princes auto today and they had the 2500 watt units for $600

I have an EU 2000i (or whatever Honda red thing) and it is pretty sweet.... Quiet too...

Kind of slipped my mind since I have solar now. Looks like the unit no longer uses a honda motor. Let me look into it again and check.

genraly speaking, i think it is the electronings that fail before the motor. chances are it has a honda copy motor but that is also good enough.

I still don't have numbers yet on potential savings, as Nick is out of town until next week. It's confirmed that the motor for the unit is manufactured by Powerease, and you can read a pdf sheet on them HERE.

So it looks like we have potential interest (don't worry not holding you to this if you change your mind) from:

Am posting to 4wdabc and various crackbook groups on interest from there.
