I am PO #3 to take on restoring this 76 FJ40. I want a less aggressive more classic look. The rear fenders were cut by th PO for monster tires. Honestly I was/am so green I didn't notice the nubs left behind. I had it professionally repainted recently. I wished I woulda found some smooth metal fender flares and added them before paint to hide the blemish. I actually had the shop weld 70 holes the PO drilled to Iron clad her with diamond plate. And I just didn't want plastic fender flares so I had those holes welded too.

My plan is to just ignore it. But if someone has any ideas I would like to do something about it. I really am set on no plastic fenders. Are there any options?

Crazy thought, but I wish I could build a metal flare that was lined with strong magnets. I don't know if magnets would be strong enough to hold a flare on though. I hate to redrill.

Sorry for the off the wall question

There are plenty of small magnets out there that will have a hold/yield strength like no other, look into neobendium magnets and look at their hold/pull strength to understand where they are at. I have personally seen some that are no larger than a silver dollar (and about 3 times as thick) but their yield strength was something like 85#.

Sure there are metal fenders out there for you somewhere but may be pricey and depending on where you are you may get lucky and hook up with a good Fab/Armor shop that could create something for you.

Thank you gregnash. I really wish I would have taken the time to get some fender flares like this green 40. I've envisioned getting something similar with magnets that would just slap on.

Do you have a side shot of that one by chance? Its EXACTLY what I had pictured for mine...... I was planning on building some just like this.

My suggestion would be to template a factory fender. Cut a piece of sheet metal with rolled lip that fits the hole and weld it in.
Then repaint. It might seem like the long way around, but in the end that's what you want. Since the paint is completely new, just pa
painting the sides might work as far as matching the paint at the seams.

EDIT: I found this other thread, and rather than copy a pic, etc.
Check out the pic on post #2.

Now 'fasteddy' seems to have a neat looking solution to your problem. I actually really
like the look of it. Doesn't seem to be a 'flare', more of a solution to your problem.
So PM this guy and see if he can send you some pics and see how he did it. Then
let us know, I'm kind of curious myself. J
