I used it on my wheels and my front grill. No complaints. Some of it has started to peel on my grill, but I also did my headgasket last fall so it head to deal with me climbing into the engine bay about 2583 times.
 
I used it on my rims and front grille about a year ago and it's still on the grille as far as the rims just got tired of the color so I peeled it off....pretty amazing stuff.
I guess it also depends on what your intentions are

Grill and tires....over a year ago, no peeling.

If it starts to peel, I will paint it. I wasn't 100% sure if I would like it or not.

The one benefit to plasti-dip is that u can change yur mind for free.

The stuff is GREAT for what it is. Its NOT permanent, but can last a long time. It would depend on how you use your truck. If you are always wheeling and getting into stuff its not going to last. I have used it on wheels and emblems and it has held up great with zero issues. When/If you have an issue with something just peel/re spray it with plasti dip. Its easy and will protect your paint. Masking is super easy and edges are clean when you do it correctly. When your sick of it just peel it off and its like it was never there in the first place.
 
Been looking at this stuff with skeptical eye, anyone used it? For anything?

A friend of mine has become an "expert" with it. He has an FR-S that he rebadged and used plasti dip to give it the same paint job as the AE86 from Initial D, for those of you who are super nerdy. He's also painted his car flat red, got tired of it and then peeled it off.

We are going to plasti dip my whole truck to try out a color for fun, if I like it we may peel and it and do something permanent, or I may just keep the plasti dip, who knows. They offer a primer that permanently adheres the plasti dip, but who knows what that'll do in the long haul or how easy it would be to repair. The cool thing about it is that it's essentially putting a latex glove over whatever you're painting, it's very easy to mask because you just cut a line and peel like a sticker. In theory if you painted a whole rig and scratched a door, you could just peel it off the door and re paint the door. It also seems to be very easy to touch up. On a hot day if you spray a nick in the plasti dip it reacts with the plasti dip you're painting over and seems to blend very well.

It it's fun to f around with because at the worst all you do is peel it off.
 
When it comes out of a can I don't get too worried if it peels or chips over time. I like the fact that you can peel it off if you have second thoughts. Is a little pricy though.
 
FJ80 - did my grill, headlight surrounds/trim.....basically de-chromed the front end and love it. Been almost a year, 98% of it's still intact and she gets on the highway as well as offroad.

Daily Driver - did the wheels ~4 months ago and all I've gotten is compliments from co-workers. Plenty of folks asking when I got the new wheels, how much the new wheels cost, and how much better the overall stance of my DD looks. Did it all in a short afternoon for ~$20.

There's nothing that "sucks" about it, cheap & fast way to change things up and if you don't like it peel it off.
 
I used it on my hood. Its lasted through two winters and a couple car touchless car washes.

I washed the hood with dish soap, then sprayed several light coats as recommended. Once I had even coverage, I went with 5-6 medium coats after that.

I agree, nothing sucks about it. Just like any paint, prep first. And if you don't like it... peel it off. Only thing you hurt is your wallet.

Like it as well. Did my grill and light trim. A few nicks here and there from such a 'busy' area from climbing around. Have my roof done in white, been over a year and no wear whatsoever. I couldn't paint that for $40. Did the wheels of my wife's Mazda5 and that stayed solid for almost 2 years (Discount scuffed that up). As it's been said solid stuff for a cheap change up. Best part is if you screw up rub/peel it off and start over. Same with over spray. Can't do that with paint. I think some don't like it as it seems the cheap route (which it is), plus it's gone so mainstream it's not the cool, different thing to do anymore.
 
I've used it for ten years on mostly cars but have my grille and , Chrome healight trim & emblems done now ( pending Satoshi) and it's perfect.... for the $$ the key is to at least get 4-5 coats so that IF/when you peel it has enough substance to do so...... I had a friend do a CLS63 with 2 coats of it and think it was good only to decide 2 weeks like that it wasn't and it didn't want ot come off...... he spent a fulle weekend plus prfessional help to restore...

but it was like it never happened once he did......

IF i didn't have a gallon of tan Monstaliner siting in the garage I'd be doing my roof with PD tan .......

key - use it for the right purpose and prep is crucial.....it doens't do well on waxed surfaces

Still think it sucks... sorry to each their own.

EDIT: Reason why is I dont like doing stuff more than once if I can help it. I hate painting... everything about it. If I have to go through the pain in the ars of doing prep work I'm gonna squirt it and be done with it period. Plastidip is good for some stuff but not for MY cars.
 
Used it on my grille, then decided I didn't like it anymore. Just a word of caution, it can be a real pain to peel off. People say it just peels off, which it does theoretically, but it can take forever if you're doing a part with lots of edges and deep pockets that you sprayed down into. I would consider it again on stock wheels or something like that with large surfaces, but I'd never dip a grille again. I spent hours trying to get that stuff off and there's stil some flakes leftover on the edges and deep cracks. If you do decide to do it, do it really well. You don't want any thin coverage because it won't hold together if you try to peel it off again.
 
yep agree it has to be done right.... and best if you don't ever expect to" peel ".....

My A8 w12 grille didn't peel at all when I wanted to sell it..... luckily the guy who bought it liked the look...

I fully expect to pass on my current 80 grille to someone local when I fianlly get the Satoshi finished( nope no PD).
 
I saw that on Xtreme Off-Road that Duplicolor makes a product that sprays on peels off. I would be inclined to use a product from a reputable paint company rather than a product designed for dipping the handles of tools.
