Bring it down and we will look at it for ya, those things are dead simple.

it looked pretty simple but i just kind of wanted to get some one who knows what they're doing to take a look at it, iv never actually USED a winch myself....and only been winched once (hamburger hill). i know they are great insurance and a good tool....ill chuck it in the back of the rig next time i run into duncan

Google "Warn 8274 troubleshooting" and you get something like this: Warn 8274 rebuild
It's probably the best description for a rebuild I've seen, with lots of pictures.

As an aside, I'd drill and tap a fill hole in the top and maybe a drain hole in the bottom of the case. I drilled the fill hole, but forgot the drain hole.
That way you can service it largely on the truck.

Rob is right, they are dead simple, so go to LORDCO, pick up a rebuild kit (cheap), and get to work!:p
Sorta kidding,

HTH

Put a meter on the solenoids to see if they're all ok, pick up a couple extras just in case they burn out on the trail and keep em in your truck. A couple hundred mils of either gear oil, or tranny fluid, whichever it is you like to run and a tube of gasket maker and you're golden.

how much do the solenoids run usually? i read that site stump, its a really good write up. thanks!

ford starter solenoids? uuummm im missing something i take it...

ford starter solenoids are the cheapest around usually. somewhere between ten and twenty depending on the parts guy you get...

yup, got my last two at "newfie sport and custom" and i think they were around 12$. ea. I'll get the part# for ya when i get back in about 5-6 weeks, but they're easy enough to find.
