Hummm....
Ironic that this "tech tip" says to use only black iron pipe, yet the vendor sells plastic pipe kits.
Also says not to use copper as soldered joints can come loose under pressure? Although, ASME, ANSI, ASTM standards rate up to 1" joints to ~200psi.
It also has a big disclaimer that you should not rely on their methods of construction.
Sounds like they had a blank page to fill on their web site and the admin staff did the job :-)
If black iron works for you great, but there are other options.
 
there is nothing wrong with black iron pipe for air piping , we probably have 1/2 mile of it plumbing our shop at work . all 2" black pipe . the key is to have a dryer right after the compressor .
 
Just finished a small shop job with AIRnet pipe. It's an aluminum extruded pipe system as well. The install was honestly a breeze, and pricing was cheaper than copper. Also I just found out it is in stock at the local Ferguson pipe supply.
