Ok, so following some of the posts I see here, I replaced my door speakers with the Pioneer TS 6.5" speakers that fit. I also replaced the ones in the dash with 4" Pioneer TS. The head unit was replaced with a pioneer double din.

The door speakers sound like crap when they get even the slightest bit of bass, even with the HPF on. The dash speakers sound great. If I turn the unit above 30 (which isn't that loud), the sound cuts out and I have to power cycle the radio, then it says AMP ERROR. I believe it is overheating.

What do I need to be looking for? Is this is an issue with a factory amp? Shorted wire? I've double checked the door speakers and they are taped up and not shorting out anywhere, and the polarity is correct.

Any insight would be helpful. I'm considering just running speaker wire to doors to see how that sounds.

I'm also concerned maybe there are too many speakers and the factory Ohm loads are causing the amp to overload.

First step is to skip the factory amp and install a new deck. Also disconnect the small under dash speakers and small speakers over the 3rd row. Once this is done the deck can cleanly power the 4 door speakers.

I didn’t bypass the factory amp.

In fact, I mistakenly unplugged the AC amplifier because the part number I looked up just said “amplifier” and then went a couple days without AC in the AZ summer.

In hindsight I should have known better; Denso doesn’t make stereo components.

you just unplug the 2 connectors going to the amp to the right of the glove box, assuming you are using the correct metra adapter for the new radio.

I don’t remember what the impedance is of the stock speakers, but it may be 8 ohms, so the amp is seeing a 4 ohm load with the door and dash speakers in parallel. I also assume the pioneers are 4 ohm, which means your amp is seeing a 2 ohm load with those wired in parrallel and likely exceeding it’s capacity. I think most people don’t run the front 4” speakers as once you have a good 6.5” in the door (right beside the 4”) there is really no need. you might try temporarily disconnecting the 4” speakers, which will lighten the load on your amp and see if the 6.5s sound better.

If you didn't bypass the factory amp and your system doesn't randomly turn off periodically then you aren't listening to your music loud enough.

If I have already installed a new deck, how do I bypass the factory amp?
You need to take your deck back out and rewire it with a different harness. This thread details the process and has good pics
