Thinking of buying a pintle hitch recovery point for the rear bumper of my 91... Anybody out there purchased this from Jonesys Offroad and if so any information about it? Thanks!:bang:

And what about Jonesys Recovery URB's for all four corners with the vanbeest 3/4 shackles??? I need a Christmas present under the tree, sort of a to me from me... Lol!

I want the Jonesey's you URB's in my stocking and sleeve sliders under the tree

An actual pintle hitch is great but, not for recovery situations. Both the URB's and rear pintle hitch are awesome, we use the rear pintle recovery point a lot more than the rear URB's simply because its not under the vehicle......
I don't see how the end of my snatch rope through a d ring in a pintle is any different than attaching it via d ring to the recovery point. They are bolted to the same crossmember with the same bolts, but you can also tow pintle or ball trailers. I've recovered a lot of stuck vehicles using a pintle hitch before (military and civilian).

ETA: this thread did teach me about your URBs though that's something I've gotta get!

I don't know about that product, but I would not want to rely on the pintle mount on my 80 as a recovery point. That mount isn't even rated for towing in the US. I am aware many use a pintle hook for light towing, but that is a different force than a yank on very stuck 6000 lbs. vehicle.

I would not use a chrome hitch ball as a recovery point. They are known to shear off.

Fair enough, I have always used normal pintles and not ball/pintles, but we do tow at work daily with a ball/pintle and it works well for some pretty heavy use/abuse.

Holland makes good ones if you decide to get one; I have one that incorporates a 2" ball that is cool.

I looked at there site and couldn't find what you were talking about. Unless you were talking about the 5 ton pintle hitch for $70. If your just putting a pintle to the factory cross member I would not trust that for recovery. Just take a look under the rear end at how flimsy that thing is and you will understand why. Maybe good enough for towing the jet skis about but you will get a lot more force going on during a recovery.

If you are just wanting a pintle hitch go down to harbor freight and you can get one for cheap. I bought a 10 ton from the local for less than $20.

@JonesysOffroad any Christmas specials for Mud members??? Interested in a one inch body lift, some URBs and the pintle hitch set up! I won't know if this all works till I buy em and put it to use!!!!

There are two types of pintle hitches that incorporate a ball hitch. One use a separate, bolt-on ball as the lower jaw, typically chromed like the usual ball hitch.

Another version has the ball integrally cast as part of the lower jaw. It's usually black-finished like the rest of the hitch. I suspect this one is just as strong a the straight, no-ball pintle hitch.

For light recovery, I see no problems using either ball-type pintle. The problem is that extreme forces are liable to bend the rear crossmember mount. I doubt it would fail completely all at once, but it could be ugly.

The nice thing about the Holland, albeit expensive, is that the 2" ball is an integral part of the hitch. I don't tow with the 80 but occasionally will have to move a trailer a few miles. Where I live lots of folks still run pintle trailers & the ability to perform a trailer recovery (pintle or 2") is cool if a truck breaks down in BFE.
The pintle makes light recovery/ pulling chores convenient as well; that said I wouldn't get crazy with it.

Thanks everyone for the info..." I hate jumping into a pond without checking how deep the water is "

Geez, these threads are really costing me some money...

;)

Those recovery points should be awesome on the front bumper!
