OK, so there are two sizes (depth wise) of pinion nuts. Toyota says that the nut for my ’85 BJ70 is the one that doesn’t actually fit my truck. It is too deep and the stake-on part doesn’t thread on enough to actually stake on.

So I need the other one. What model of LC should I say to Toyota to actually get the right part?

Thanks,
Craig.

There are two numbers,
the first one is # 90179-22011
and a sub # 90179-22016

They are the nut for some of the 80 series and 60 series too. You could say FJ62 or FZJ80

Which one did you get? Pick the other number and let us know how it works.

OK, so the # 90179-22016 pinion nut is being permanently replaced by the # 90179-22011. The difference (in depth) is that you can't use the washer which goes on after the companion flange, but before the nut. These new pinion nuts are deeper but have an integrated washer (a flare at the end) which amounts to the same thing as the washer.

So, no more washer. Nut works fine.

Craig.
