Just like the title states.... I have a 94 HJZ73 with an auto trans. Everything on it works as it should, but if I hit large bumps or pot holes on the expressway my trans likes to jump from D to 2nd gear. Is this normal?? Is there a lockout that needs adjustment?

Mine does this too, or used to, fairly often. The shifter seems to be able to move through the gears fairly easily (D-2-1). Bumps can cause enough force to knock it down from D to 2. I'm not sure if there's anything we can do.

My 77 did it a couple times in the same spot on the freeway. In a transition from pavement to overpass there is a large gap. Tax dollars at work. Swapped out my engine mount insulators during the rebuild and so far it hasn't bumped out of gear in same location.

The 73 hasn't done it in the same location FWIW.

This might be the exact help/direction I need. Thank you.

Far from a scientific analysis. I was just in there anyway and the engine mounts had 30 years of use on 'em.

I know the shifter bushings on the A440f in the FJ62 have a tendency to wear out and make for a really floppy shifter, I wonder if the same is true of the shifter used in the post-1990 70-series?
