Hi all, the question still rages on... thought i had it figured out then i saw the 77 olive 653 that sold for 100k. Thought 653 wasn't offered in 77. I even called the shop that did it and the guy was sure the code was correct. He didn't know what to say either! I'm ready to just go BLUE! lol. Oh yes roof color too. (Not to beat a dead horse here.....) 1977 fj40 which brownish color and what roof color? Thanks All.

hey Rudi, thanks the two color charts made the most difference especially with the year. its got to be 637. how about roof color in your opinion....

To make the finding of the right color tone of the 653 more complicated, I took out a piece of the original paint (653) from the FJ45 1981 of a part of the interior that has not been weathered or in the sun and let it screen at the PPG paint store.

it recognized it as a Jaquar XJ6 1978 color "Moraccan Bronze"

Unfortunately knowing the color number 637 or 653 is not enough, the issue is to get That color.

It seems to be difficult as the old color pallet was made based on a lead pigments formula, as pigments with lead are hardly available anymore the pigment formula is changed, now as they told me, it especially difficult with the replacement of the old "color pigment 18".
If that is true i don't know it just what I've been told.

What I do know that all 3 of the Fj40's I have of that color, you gotta love it :bang: are all different in tone.

Be sure that you make a sample and order more then you need.

Maybe your first idea to go with a just $55k FJ40 blue color was easier, lol :hmm:

Ok so depending on the year. 77 would be Cygnus white?
My painter just informed me that he searched in the computer and found 637 so that's what I'm going with... Will just check it with existing paint in the truck if it's close that's it!!! Don't even care anymore! Lol

The 70k rig is 653. Olive green. Guaranteed. ..

My last rig was 653. Had the paint made at ppg with the 653 code. Check my copper state build thread link.

Sorry for the necropost... just stumbled across this....

The data plate on my '77 is missing. I buffed out various spots and got this color. Looks like 653 to me. The good news is - I like this shade. Bad news - I didn't want to repaint the entire thing....
