looking for a pic or two of the rear cargo area with the carpet removed.
looking at doing an interior spare carrier. yeah the 80's are rubbing off on me....
but the purist in me can't cut up the carpet i have:o
plan B is just remove it:popcorn:
but i like the looks of it back there...actually i have the rear seats folded up, so the carpet is right to the front seats.

i hate myself:hillbilly:

It will be REALLY noisy on the road without the carpeting installed. You might want to try it before you commit.

And you will come to HATE having that tire back there in the way all the time.

it's not going to be any louder than a topless 40 series.

in the way?? it's in the way NOW. if i stand it up it'll be way out of the way.

I was cutting up the floor to access the fuel pump in this picture but it gives you an idea:
There's two sided tape on the sheet metal because I installed my own carpet w/o padding. So diregard those strips.

whipped something togther this afternoon. paint tomorow, and maybe get it in as well.
bolts to teh floor. have to make one small slit in the carpet, but it will be hardly noticible.
should work out pretty good.

Please post pics of the install and final product. It's fun to see other people's projects.

here's two pre-install, in the white pictures.
the plate will be under the carpet. around teh gas tank i have 6 bolts. for over teh tank, we have some insane two part epoxy at work, probably could have gotten away with just gluing the whole thing down......the stuff is truly crazy.
the tire sits down on the floor, so the mounts really does not hold it up, just upright. the backside of the tire is going to be right up agianst upright post. teh upright when in place will be not quite agianst the trim panel.

material is 1.25" sch40 pipe, an 1.25" weld 90*, 0.1875" hrcs sheet on the base and 0.25" for the flange, everthing is bead blasted here.
have some gray that should fit in nicely.

That is sweet!

behold the power of the tape measure.
could have made it a wee bit taller, teh carpet makes getting it on alittle tougher than could be.
all in all i'm pleased with it.

i need to vacuum the back out, a summer of fishing has left a load of pebbles and fine gravel.

I love it! I would ask for you to make me one if it weren't for my storage system taking up that space.

Just wondering why you went with Passenger Side installation rather than Driver's side. Most of the time factory spares are mounted on the driver's side, to provide better vision. Probably wouldn't be a big deal. Of course, access to the jack possibly an issue?
