Bingo.

I know how it feels. 33s look cool enough but the extra height really gives you that big-tire-itch...

Here you go. Note - 30MM spacer in front. Actually 3" lift in front with spacers.

Thanks! I want 35's but don't have the dough to re gear yet.. Just wanted to know if it would look ridiculous with the 33's.

Depending where you live and what year truck you have running 35's on stock gears is not bad. I have done it fir more than a year and in all honesty I though it would be a lot worse than it is, I only really notice it on hills. I do plan to re-gear some day but its not a huge priority.

I almost went 33's first but am very glad I did not, 35's and 2" lift looks right.

Around here you can't drive a mile in any direction without hitting a hill. My truck is a 91.. I imagine with the 3fe it would be nearly un driveable with 35's ungeared.

ditto....running 35's on stock gearing as well...OME Heavies....when I bought it, it had 33's. Here's a picture of both for reference. No question for me. 35's and would not look back. only minor rubbing on the flares at full flex but those are coming off soon anyway.

I live with Mountains all around so any drive I do involves hills and mountains, having said that with a 3fe I would think 35's would require a re gear.

Not really. When I still had the auto in the 92 I liked the way it drove with the 35's better than the 33's. 35's seem to fit the shift points better.

All this regearing talk is hilarious to me having just started hanging out on this forum a few months ago. It's a 3.5% difference in "performance" on a vehicle that weighs nearly 5,000 lbs. Do you honestly think you'll notice that? I can see regearing if you're a hardcore rock crawler, but for the rest of us 35's with stock gearing works just fine.

Edit: bhmmapping beat me to it.

Where did you get 3.5% from?

The difference in diameter between a 33 and a 35. Google wheel calculators if you need to see the specifics. Yes a 35 will be a bit heavier and a bit wider, but the fact remains that regearing for small changes for typical usage is a great waste of money. Unless you're in top gear on a long incline you'll never need the extra gearing imo.

Fwiw I used a 295/75/16 for calculations. A 305/70/16 is a 5.5% difference. Still not huge.

on an fj80, which starts out on 31" tires, you change 13% in tire size going up to a 35. Plus you have to factor in the extra weight and rolling resistance of a larger wider tire. Regearing is not necessary for a street driven rig, but especially for an early truck it is probably the best bang for the buck upgrade that can be done.

OK for one stock tire size on a 91 FJ80 is 31" not a 33". A metric 35" tire is a 315/75R16. Works out to about a 15% difference on a truck that was underpowered off the production line that's a big jump.

Here is mine 2" Iron Man and 315's. I have driven it up mountains and on every type of terrian and have been very happy with the performance.
