Were you running 8" wheels on those 32's? What was the back spacing?
Yep, 15x8 with *I think* 3.75" backspacing. They fit great. I wheeled the s*** outta those tires/rims though, and since I usually ran them at 9-10 psi offroad the lips of the rims got mangled. I would go with 15x7 rims next time.

I really would like to run the 31x9.50 on my stock/some stock wheels. My springs are far from tired so if you could do 32's I do nto see why I cannot do 31's.
31x10.50's were factory options from '89-'95, so you'll have no problem fitting 31"s. The 31x9.50 Swamper Radials are pretty cool. I see an '89-'95 reg. cab truck with them on my way home from work sometimes. His rig is stock height and running stock rims.
The weird thing about the 31x9.50 Swamper Radials (and also the 33x10.50 radials) is that the center tread is continuous around the tire. Check it out:

I ran the 32X9.50's on my last fj40. Loved them MINUS the fact that they were non radials. That is why I like the idea of the 31X9.50 radial.

Thanks man,

Unless you regear, anything over 31" will bring the suck on road. I am running 31x10.5x15 BFG muds on my 87 pickup and could not imagine the additional powerloss a 32" tire would bring. The R series motor has nowhere near the torque the F series does to make up for the tire size increase. I will probably go down to a 30" or equivalent Pmetric size once these wear out since it no longer sees trail duty.

Agreed, my 85 mini has stock gears and I run 31 X10.50 X 15 BFG ATs most of the year. If I'm going wheeling out my back door or need more traction, I run 33X9.50X15 Wildcat TXR's. The 31's are fine with my 4:10 gears, but with the 33's I can't get into 5th. With 4L, it really doesn't matter, but I prefer the 31's for onroad/light offroad duty. I'd post pics, but I have a 4" Explorer Pro Comp lift on it.

I tried 34x10.5 LTBs on 8 inch rims on my 85 with no lift. Lots of rubbing in front despite liberal application of a BFH. Looked real good though.

Yeah, I know. Old thread. BUT, I just made my mind up on tires/wheels for that stock/skinny/what I would consider tough look.

Here she is ready for this week's whitetail hunt ( :

Stock up front, didn't touch the torsion bars.
Rear was sagging, installed a Add a Leaf.

33x12.5's on stock rims

Trimmed the front and rear fenders, needed to remove some rust ;p And I hammered back the firewall and pinch weld.

33x12.50's on stock 15x7 wheels????????????????????????

I was under the impression that was impossible i.e. to seat the bead.

I guess not ( :

Try bias ply 32x12.50s on stock wheels! The bias ply sidewall bulge looks plain wicked on 7" wheels. I ran them on my '86 pickup with pretty much a 1-2" t-bar lift/lower stops but also would slap them on my stock 4runner. Now on my pickup since the 32x12.50 are discontinued I run a x-terrain 31x12.50's....see if I ever break a bead! I also have 4.30 gears out of an automatic in the pickup and it helps alot with the wide 31's. My dad also runs 275/70-16's on his near stock 4runner (new t-bars, add-a-leaf for the saggy butt). With the 4.10 gear it isn't so bad since they are street treads.

In the end I think 33x12.50 will probably fit ok on a stock truck and wheels, maybe some rub. 33x10.50's should be absolutely fine. IMO The main problem is gearing/power.

Ok so here's the line up:

Stock hight pickup with 31x10.5 a/t's:

New t-bars, bump stops, 1-2" lift with 32x12.50's but can work on a bone stock:

Man, there is NO tire shop in my town that would install a 12.50 tire on a 7" wheel ( :

That is cool for trail but I know, considering the geometry, that your tires would NOT wear well if used on both street and trail.

Looks good though

Are all those pics shot in TX? Beautiful land

Well, the tire guys mounted my 32x12.50's no questions but I mounted the 31x12.50 myself since I have access to a machine. Though I don't see it being an issue at a tire shop....well the ones that don't speak english :p

Anyway, I run the 31x12.50s on the street, my truck is my DD. I even run mid 30's psi, no crowning etc. I wouldn't even question side wall flex/heat build up on CC trips. You just cannot wear out tires on these light little pickups. I did take my 32's on a 1k CC each way trip, no worries. The 31's have only seen about a 400mile each way trip.

Yep TX is a great place, though the first picture of the truck was the madine trip to CO.

my 33's seem to be wearing just fine, I bought the wheel set used from a local guy. I probably would have mounted the tires on some 8" steel rims.

I have yokohama at-s tires on my stock hilux double cab.
235/85/16 They are about 32inches high and 8 1/2 inches wide. tall and skinny great in snow. A little rubbing at full turn. in 16" by 6" wide stock toyota rims.

BFG AT 33x10.5, stock alloys on 89 XCab, no lift, saggy rear leafs. Rubbed a bit on the facia, little bend and its good. I just sold the tires and rims to a fella with a 94 XCab, and he says they rub on the inner seam.

i'm that fella and they rubbed a bit on the fender seam, and on the valence. i cut out some fender liner, pounded some fender seam, and they hardly rub at all now. i bet off road they'd rub a lot more, though.

I had 32 x 12.5 BFG AT on my 85 pickup and they didnt rub during street driving........... My springs were not tired/sagging........ No lift.
