Ken,

Will a 13x36x16 TSL fit on your carrier on a factory alloy rim?

Yes, a 13x36x16 TSL will fit the HQ tire carrier.

The tire will also still be above the departure angle.

here is a 37x12x15 rim MTR on a 8" wide rim

Is there an option as to what side the tire swingout is mounted, or was one of these bumpers a "one-off"?

the bumper can be ordered with the spare tire swing-out on either the drivers or passenger side

tire on the passenger side is the standard

Ken

Swing out on the passenger side is safer.

This looks interesting Ken. I too would be interested in the bumper without the side tubes.

If you're going to C-Moab, I'd like to have a look at the setup and understand if my valley hitch can work with it. I would like to be able to pull the tire carrier as well.

You heading to Utah?

Because?

i don't belive that either side is really safer, as they each have their disadvantage. the pivot on the USDS would swing into traffic while the USPS mount would put the spare in a position to enlarge the driver's blind spots.

pick your poison. i'd go with USDS, as i don't park streetside very often and don't enjoy impaired visibility.

I'm extremely satisfied with having the spare tire in the MIDDLE on my Slee Bumper. IF a re-design of a bumper was going to happen I'd suggest that change.

On an 80 and 100 the blind spots are to those far rear sides and a side-mounted spare makes for one HUGE blind spot on that side. On Slee's 100 bumper those "corner views" aren't obstructed. The only thing that the center tire blocks (I have a 35 and Hi-Lift) is a extreme tailgater, though you can still see their roof, so all is OK.

My 0.02 (oh, that line's been taken? :D )

Yeah, I know.
I've read many of the arguements for one side over the other.

I wanted to know what Kalawag's rational is for one side being safer than another. And how having a swing out on the driver's side vs. the passenger's side has anything to do with safety.

If the hitch you have bolts on and came from a retailer (not custom) I am 99% sure the hitch you have will fit under the bumper.

The bumper without tubes is schedualed to be released in June.

I will be taking a customers 80 called the Ultimate 80 to Cruise Moab this year...sneek peak

1 pro to having the spare on the drivers side is the rear view, a con is the weight of the tire combined with the gas tank and driver, could cause the 80 to lean.

1 pro to having the spare on the passenger side is the weight of the tire will offset the gas tank and driver weight, a con is the obstructed view from the drivers seat.

The dual swing-out with tire on drivers side and gas can carrier on the passenger is balanced perfect. The gas cans only come up into the bottom of the rear window 4 inches, good rear view and even weight.

Ken

I have the tire on the Drivers side and I can say that while cruising down the highway in the left lane I like the extra view of the open lanes on the right. Also when loading and unloading at the curb, with the tire on the DS I don't have to move around it to put something on the tail gate if there is another vehicle parked behind me.

I personally love the dual setup as I've wanted a cooler carrier for mine since I got it. It's just not an option.

I am completely satisfied with my Hanna Quality rear bumper (and sliders). I have the tire on the drivers side and a three NATO can holder on the passenger side. Ken did a great job.

Wow good thing I put my order in for the bumper awhile ago..I am very happy with the bumper..Cant wait to try it out on the trail this year..
So dont be dumb...
Get you one...

Fzj80 fireman, I took your advice and just ordered my bumper, I should have bumper and pics in about 1 week, I am so excited I can't wait. Bumper needs to get powder coated and then finished! Thank you Ken. :)

SWEET.....Did you get any thing else put on the opposite side of the tire or get something different then the regular setup?

No, I really did not think about anything else, but maybe down the road if it is possible, Ken told me that he would have it no later than Monday-Tuesday next week, I think He told me that it is his last one before he gets started on the cruiser for cruise moab. Ordered mine right on time! :D
