Picking up an 07 UZJ on Monday

Did you start seeing the new fluid come through and know when to stop?

I can't imagine the fluid making that kind of difference. I am an Amsoil fan all day long from my buggy days, but I don't know...seems far fetched.

Proof is in the pudding though. Thanks so much for the numbers.

I baby mine (with 305's) and the best tank in 3500 miles has been 16 on the computer.

The existing fluid had a slight brown tint to it and wasn't nearly as bright red as the new Amsoil. I could easily tell the difference when the new fluid made it to the drain hose in the bucket.

I'm shocked too. It's doing it though...

The last two tanks I went down to 87 octane because 93 is almost $4/gal here now.

My economy has dropped off about 1MPG or so on average, but the power seems to be OK, thanks to the VVTi I guess. The difference between 87 octane and 93 octane is about $.30 to $.35 per gallon now, or about 7-8%. The pick up in economy almost pays for the higher grade of fuel.

I now have THIS after changing to the Amsoil ATL Low-Viscosity Transmission Fluid.

This does NOT occur during "normal" conditions. However, if I have to make a quick stop for a light, etc, then the trans will perform a very hard and noticible downshift THUD about 1-3 seconds after coming to a complete stop. Sometimes, the truck will not move at all until I let off the brake completely and give it a little gas (driveline binding or transmission not in gear), then it will THUD (feels like jumping into gear) and just about give me whiplash.

Unfortunately, greasing the driveshaft did NOTHING - as suggested by my local service department.

It is looking like the Amsoil ATL may NOT be fully compatable with the 5-speed A750F transmission.

I brought this to the attention of Amsoil, and they sent me some test bottles to send a sample back to them to check for the proper viscosity, etc.

I will give an update after they tell me the results. I am also going to pump more Amsoil grease into the driveshaft zerks and see if it gets better.

Again, this is NOT an everyday problem and -ONLY- occurs at/after an "emergency" stop. We're not talking about ABS kicking in or near misses... I mean an abrupt stop at a traffic light that just turned yellow/red when you're going 55 down the road.

Luckily, I have 56,300 miles on the truck and it's still under the 60K powertrain warranty. If all else fails and Amsoil doesn't want to "warranty" their fluid, then I'll take it in and see what the stealer, er I mean DEALER comes up with. My guess is the first thing they'll do is lube the driveshaft and send me on my way. On the second visit, they'll probably change the fluid in the transmission after they drop the pan to inspect the valve body and filter screen...

Why did you change it before the warranty was up? 56k is nothing on WS fluid.

you could be s*** out of luck REwarranty

Not worried...

First, there's no way Toyota (or Dealer) will test the fluid they drain to see if it's Toyota Genuine WS, and trust me, they will drain it to see if the shift gets better since it's under warranty. Even if they do, they would have to prove that the alternate fluid caused any damage. Even in the remote chance that they do PROVE it, then I could use their proof to go after Amsoil. Why? Keep reading.

Second, Amsoil offers a Warranty that their fluids are 100% compatable with anything they list on their website and/or compatibility charts. If you have a problem, they pay for the repair. Plain and simple. I am having a sample of my fluid sent to Amsoil for testing, so they are aware of my issue already.

Third, I drive this truck for work. If I have ANY drivetrain failure/problem, my company will pay 100% of the repair since the vehicle is required in the execution of my duties as an employee. So, if I end up having an issue that Toyota won't warranty and have to take it up with Amsoil, then I'll just have the company pay for the repair. If I get a refund from Amsoil, I'll sign it over.

I'm covered...

Well in that case....good!

Shouldn't you be putting more stickers on your 100?

I wanted to see if the resolution was with Amsoil, or if there was an issue with the transmission.

I was a dumbass and checked the fluid w/o the engine running. It's been 1.5 to 2 quarts low becaus of that, so when I braked hard, the fluid sloshed to the front of the sump, leaving the pump intake dry. Once stopped, the fluid rushed back to the intake, the pump got fluid, and completed the gear change to 1st, creating the momentary feeling of being in neutral (torque converter not engaged due to no fluid) followed by the THUD of the pressure returning to the system. No damage as there's not really any lubrication requirements when sitting still or decellerating, but worrisome none the less.

Running Boards

Any Chance you're getting rid of the running Boards? If no one else claims them I'll buy them.

The ones on a 2000 are different from the 2007's. I might do that - but it won't be any time in the next couple months. I've got too much stuff going on to build any step sliders right now.

Call me crazy, but I'm just not digging the 07 as much as I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice truck, but I'm having second thoughts about picking it over a GS for a high-mileage company travel vehicle. Might be looking to either sell or trade for a GS 450h or GS 350. I'm still on the fence, but I think I'm going to test drive a few and see if a GS would be a better fit. I just don't know that I want a "car" over a truck/SUV for the feel, but the GS 350 I have driven was exceptionally nice and much more comfortable to my 6'4" frame.

If you decide to sell, PM me. I'm looking for a ride for the wife...

I love my 100 but I too am kicking myself for getting a $20,000 vehicle that gets 14 mpg.

Should have gotten a $10,000 100 and then a commuter car :D
:bang:

Bamachem, do you notice that it gets less mileage than your 2000? I think the 40 extra horsepower gets you 1 less mpg than the older rigs.

I get BETTER fuel economy than the 2000 LC, but it had larger tires too. If I baby this truck w/ the AC off, I can get ~18MPG at 70 MPH and 20+ MPG at 60 MPH. It was about 1.5 MPG lower in the 2000 UZJ.
