Hey M,

I don't know exactly what type of springs you have, but I think I have the exact same springs and shackles (and just noticed, the same shocks). The P.O. told me it was a 2.5 inch lift. I'd be interested in knowing if you find out any info on the springs too.

The fronts are flatter (have less arch) than the rear when off vehicle, but when loaded, my rear springs flatten out more than the front (5 leaf vs 6 leaf). Judging by your rear shackle angle, you must not have the top on or any weight in the rear, or the springs aren't broken in. My shackles in the back are angled at as much as, or maybe even a little more so than the fronts.

No, the top is on, but no weight in rear. The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting a SO in a week or two and have been advised by the mechanic and others on this board to go back to stock leafs. I didn't want to buy any if my fronts were still stock. The mechanic has about 6 wrecked FJ40s in his yard and told me he would just take some from one of his wrecks. But, do not want to buy them if I already have them.

i'll be first to ask. how much do you want for those lift springs? Larry

Hi All:

If you are gonna spend the $$ to have a shop do a SOA conversion you should have them use longer leaf springs than the stock 40 Series packs. FJ55 rear spring packs have been popular, but are getting hard to find. FJ60 rear springs are nearly the same dimensions as the FJ55 springs, so another good choice.

Regards,

Alan

to me they "look" stock, very much so, but they have much more of an arch than stock springs should. My guess is that they are rearched stock springs that the PO had sent out to a spring shop to be rearched?

my opinion on the spring is this. I am positive that eventually with those stock springs that the mechanic is going to put on that you will have to add a leaf to them because they will sag and invert, probably about a year into the SOA. At this time I would have the mechanic toss in the stock fj40 springs. They should be cheap, if not close to free. If they are not, find some elsewhere, cuz stock fj40 springs are around and should not be expensive. Once you are all setup with the SOA it is a one banana weekend job to swap out springs if you wish to do so later.

Aren't those the 2.5" Rancho lift springs?

I hope I don't get reprimanded by the Mud "Greek Council", but I wanted to know if my front springs were stock? I know the rears are lift springs, but the fronts look kinda flat (or more flat that the rears). Thanks

okay, I don't really have anything to contribute to this discussion, but I can tell you how to link an image, (I have a silver star, but my wife doesn't, but I just tried it from her account, and it still loaded your pictures)
what you do is:
when you cut and paste your link, put
or, if you "go advanced" , look for this symbol
insertimage.gif
and click it, then paste in your image location.
hope that helps, no smartass intended, it does make your posts easier to read though,
