I just submitted $2400 in claims to VPI Pet Insurance. Only had the little guy for a couple of months now. We went with the additional rider for vaccinations and routine coverage. Damn who knew it would be so much? Thank god for insurance.

I would assume the usual minus the x-rays for a potential fracture in his foot when a stupid xmas stocking weight he pulled off a shelf fell on his paw.

Tapeworms, Giardia, Bordatella boosters and the rest of the vaccinations and medications.

I'm sending him to the glue factory.

Crap. Your tiny dog is almost as expensive as your new/obsolete computer.

:doubleouch: Now I'm just being mean.

You should FedEx him to a vet in Kansas or something next time he needs anything.

He's almost more than the 60 now too... :D

macneill,

I can't resist jumping in on this one...

First - you can drop $2400 in a HEARTBEAT on your dog. My golden had her stomach flip over on itself (GDV) in the middle of the night. When this happens the flow of blood is cut off, and gas cannot escape (no farting). When this happens you have about 30 to 60 minutes to fix it before the tissue is dead. Cost at the emergency clinic? ~$3000

I now work for Pets Best. The founder of VPI left there to start Pets Best. It operates differently the VPI - no schedule of benes, just a simple 80/20 split. After your deductible ($75 or $200) they reimburse you for 80% of the items related to illness or accident on your hospital invoice.

So regardless of the cost of medicine where you live - 80/20 split. Nice.

They also have plans to pay for routine wellness care.

O-k, sorry! Enough :grinpimp:

You can PM me for more info - BTW, my role is with the vet clinics, not to sell to individuals...

Did your dog undergo major surgery?

Probably had an earbug.

I read a story a few years back that the general dog owner would shell out an average of $5000 to save a pets life.

That sounds about right...

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal about calculating the true cost of a pet - estimates ranged from $12,000 for the lifetime of a small dog that lives 15 years to $23,000 for a large breed that lives 12 years...

Kids are even more expensive no one bitches about their medical bills...
