PCV Valve Grommet Install

I'm trying to install the grommet and can get it installed, but when trying to install the actual PCV valve into the grommet, I ended up destroying the grommet. Any suggestions as to how to install the PCV valve without destroying the grommet? I have tried heating the grommet, but that didn't help.

Are you sure you have the correct PCV valve? It shouldn't be that hard. Sometimes a little shot of hair spray will lube it enough for rubber to slide on steel (and then evaporate), an old motorcycle trick to get rubber handlebar grips and foot pegs on.
