Well after a whirlwind weekend of great mods on the 80 , I got a kick in the nutz this morning on the way to work . I pulled thru the coffee drive thru , and went to lower my driver window . It went down 6 inches and thats all she wrote . It will not budge now . I took out the control , and took it apart at work to examine it .. it appears normal , and smells normal . :)

One pc of satellite info is that the 3 right most defrost buttons would not light up this AM .. wonder if that is a related electrical issue , or a red herring

I have taped a bag over it for now , but it's calling for snow today :censor: . I am a little too tall now to get into under ground parking at the condo so I'd like to deal with this ASAP !

What are your thoughts on this ?

Unfortunately if I am to take apart the door , it will have to be in the parking lot at work here today .. between calls  :censor:

Please advise ..

Thanks ,

TY

Taking the roof rack off to fit in the underground parking might be a better quicker fix...

Dunno..just thinking outside the box.

Didn't Poser tell you? That's a side effect of the OME steering damper. :D

Looks to be the 30 amp fuse marked FL power from the wiring diagram. The 10A guages fuse is also connected to the system and may cause it not to work.

The up wire from the switch is black, down is red. Up is pin 6, down is pin 13. If you can jump it direct, you might be able to get it to go up.

see if you can pull the window up while the switch is in the "up" position -- you just want to get it up for now --

TYLER :)

That’s bad luck and I can emphasise with you. It is quite stressful having to deal with your vehicle in less than ideal conditions. My rear widow did exactly the same thing, it was just an hour before dark and the rain was only just holding back so I decided to wind the windows down and clean the external runners as they were all running in a geriatric manor. It wound down just over half way and it stopped and it would not go up either, I tried one last time going down with a little helping and clanging. The part that holds the window to the arm the bit were the wheel runs had come off completely and now it started to rain and as I have said on other occasions no where to put it under cover, s***. To cut a long story short I had to dissemble the inside of the door and manually pull the window up and tape it into position over night. The next day in sleety drizzle I had a proper look and cleaned out what I could and then reattached the roller runner or what ever you call it. It was very difficult to get it on, I am not sure what or how your supposed to go about it but in the end I used washing up liquid or detergent to allow it to slip on. I have done this on the front before and after giving it a day to dry has remained on since, however I am not going to exorcise the rear for a while or at least until we have a proper brake in all the wet weather we keep having. My observations are that the window motor appears to be actually powerful but the friction that the window is subject to is incredible even after cleaning and lubricating it is amazing that they work at all

So It may be that yours is just stuck and there is no electrical fault.

Related to the cold? run the interior heat as high as possible and space heat outside? maybe a dumb idea? Door panel comes off pretty easy if you leave switches pluged in, replace speakers in wifes 80 this weekend and it only took about 10 minutes to remove and replace, of course it wasn't cold here.

did you take it out or take it apart? if you took it apart I would have thought I would hear you swaring because all the little contact came falling out :D

I had the one(driver door master) off my 92 apart yesterday and found the contact were almost burned and black, cleaned them up and it helped a bit. But I need a new/used one.....prolly

TYLER,

If it is the fuse, you might want to have a competent auto electrician look at your electrical system. It sounded like all your trouble started after the installation of the remote starter...

I'll look at the fuses in a minute .. just finishing lunch . Also I was told I cannot bring the 80 into the base , so I'll work in the lot I guess ; whatever :censor:

When it happened , the motor NO longer made a peep . So it's my sense that a fuse is out , or the motor burnt , or a loose connection/connector .

I'm going to go rip it all down in the daylight , as well as replace the taped up garbage bag with a clear bag so I can drive with it like that if need be , and leave it out again over nite .

LP , I have had the controls apart completely and mine too were black . I used electronic cleaner , and it's all sparkly now :D But not until I lost a spring down the sink .. *shrugging* The bathroom vanity was the best lit surface to work on at the time ... and I have since made a note to drop the sink plug if I ever repeat that performance ..

John , I'm not certain if my alarm is at fault here . Once I replaced my crap battery my alarm immediately began working flawlessly again . Also like a dumbass this weekend , I left the truck in neutral while on the hoist , and so forgot to turn the key back off .. so I actually completely drained my new freakin Orbital ! Poser put it on a charger for the evening , and all is well now .. but I wonder if that has anything to do with this .

Do the other windows still operate?

Does the voltmeter "dip" if you hit the driver window switch?

The regulator arm may have jumped the track. That happend to me a couple years ago.

That is SO like my ride to work this am. Window down at the toll and stayed down for 1/2 the ride to work. Every 30 seconds it would go up a 1/2 in. or so.
Not proper Cruiser etiquette, but a well placed punch to the door panel at least got it back up.

I don't know whats worse ... if I 'had' blown a motor , or anything tangeable for that matter or the alternative , which is that I reconnected the controller in the blowing snow / hands frozen stiff .. and the bloody thing works !!! What the hell

So obviously the bloody OME stabilizer is to blame after all ! :flipoff2:

This thread is still quite useful from a problem solving reference , and I appreciate all the tips :)

Yeah my 80's windows take so freakin long to go down and up. But its just the front ones. Are the motors goin on them or what?

Search mofo ...

He could have, but you wouldn't have learned anything.....

Search! Read! Will take you about a month to read everything you need to know....

or you could have just said yes or no

You're right , I could have said yes but as Cruisin says you would not have learnt anything ... nothing significant anyways . The search will provide you with excellent problem solving writeups .. a few items should be addressed .. such as window alignment , track lubing , and control cleaning .

It's all in here somewheres .. ;)
