I was checking the fluids in the 62 and noticed a hose coming off of the transmission fluid dipstick that was bent by a hose below it causing it to be crimped shut. I removed the crimp but I am curious what this hose does (air release, moisture release, etc)? It is not connected to anything and I do not see anywhere it would connect.

Anyone know what this part is for?

Hose #748 attaches to the dipstick outlet and connects to part #750 in your pic - transmission breather and overflow control.

I can tell you with some authority where that goes because mine was missing althogether. It goes to a plastic vent piece on top of the transmission. If it is disconnected, then that means your vent pipe on top of the transmission is open to dust, water, etc. The only way to get to it is to take out the front carpet, and then take off the panel on the transmission hump. There should be a plastic elbow that comes out of the top of the transmission that your hose will connect to. Mine was broken off. It was tricky getting the old one out without pushing it into the transmission. I got a new elbow and hose from Toyota. The plastic elbow has an o-ring on it where it goes into the transmission, but the elbow from Toyota did not include the o-ring. I re-used the one from the plastic piece I extracted from the hole in the top of the transmission.

...also, can you take a shot of your charcoal canister real quick?

Thanks! That makes sense and I think I found the overflow hole on the top transmission...

Do you think there would be some negative impacts if I were to seal the overflow with a bolt and not use it? It has not been connected correctly for about a year since that is when we put the rebuilt transmission in and reconnecting this was overlooked. Either way, I can easily reach it (if that is the location) and it is a $4 part from SOR.

Oh, and by the way, the hole in question is right on the top of the tranny, and I couldn't even see it with a mirror and doing some serious contortions. I had to take the panel off of the transmission hump beside the shifter.

I would not plug the hole. It's there to release pressure when the tranny gets hot and via versa when it cools down. That's what the skirt is for in the second picture.
Reconnect the hose so you don't get any water inside the tranny when its wet out.

Well, I don't think Toyota vented the tranny because they had extra parts laying around and wanted to use them up...................:)

Thanks

If the hole I found in the previous picture was the correct location, I wanted to plug it temporarily until I got the part needed. It was wishful thinking on my part hoping that was the correct hole since I could get to it without much work... :frown:

I found the correct hole via pics from Spectre and your feedback...

I will rip into this on Wednesday and hopefully it will be a pretty easy correction. I just hope the plug is still there and I don't need to source a replacement.

Thanks again for your help!

Yep, you now have the right hole. It only takes an hour or so to take out the carpet and remove the transmission hump panel. Even if the plastic elbow is missing, it was only a few bucks from Toyota. In my case, they didn't have it in stock, so I put my drivers seat back in and drove around for a couple of days with the transmission cover off. You can hear a lot of interesting sounds from the engine and transmission with that panel removed!

Oh, and one final note. The hole that the elbow goes in is not threaded. The elbow just pops in.

I finally had some time to tear into this today... what a pain in the arse to attach a hose!

Good news though, the plastic plug is there so the hole has not been exposed (threat of water and/or debri is moot). The hose running from the plug to the dipstick was sheared so I just need to put a new hose on and try to determine why it was sheared so I don't have to deal with this again.

The hose will not come off of the plastic plug though, and I am afraid to man handle it too much in fear of breaking the plug (it seems pretty weak). I plan on taking a heat gun to it tomorrow to make the hose more pliable in hopes it comes off easier.

Thanks again for the assistance!

What do these two hoses connect two, i have something on my vacuum way messed up, cause mine looks nothing like that

Here ya go

Facing the enging bay, the hose on the right goes to the air cleaner...

The hose on the left goes to some hard lines, from the firewall it looks to connect to the 2nd line.

Hope this helps
