I know that this in not really 25 series related however I need some assistance from people who have been around these vehicles longer than I have. I have recently purchased a 1971 FJ40 which I believe its origin started in South Africa and then somehow made its way here to Aust. I was given a heap of parts when I bought her and some of those parts included what appears to be parking/indicator lights. I have tried to establish from the 40/55 section if these are factory parking/indicator lights which mount onto the chassis rail at the front of the vehicle. If anyone can help thank you in advance. I believe that they are genuine Toyota lights as they have Koito stamped onto the clear lens. I have only ever seen the round ones which are fitted to the front bib.

i reckon they could be fog lights that mount on the front bumper. i have a set somewhere on a 73?; will have a look tomorrow and post a pic to compare. dont lose them; they are hard to find for the obvious reasons.

Serious doubt they are fog lights. Same fog lights were used on the FJ25 as were used on late 4X series. Besides other Toyota vehicles Koito made lights for Nissan as well and possible other manufacturers in Japan. The holes in the bracket look to be the right size to fit the holes on the frame for the back of the PTO winch but why lights there would be there is a mystery. Toyota has done strange things over the years. While not listed on any parts books a few Nippon Denso heaters made it here to the US on early LCs. A few proto type full time 4WD FJ40s made with Borg/Warner parts made it also. Getting info from Toyota has proven to be almost impossible. Maybe JohnnyC or Cruiser_Nerd can shed some light on the subject. The one thing you have going for you is it's post 3/69 which is the oldest Toyota has gone back in the parts system for many years. If you could figure out what number Toyota used on these you have a chance what vehicle and year/s used. Good Luck.

More info please. Were they mounted or found loose? Can't quite make out the number on the lens. Single filament? The bulb may give a clue if they were low watt parking/running or higher watt fog lights.

I'm afraid though you will never establish OEM unless you can find period photos from the original import market or Mr
T. Even with that it could have been dealer installed. The original market set the lighting requirements, for example the early amber rear lights for the Australian market and the odd additional running lights at the top corners of the front bib in other markets.

Koito supplied/s many manufacturers as well as a full aftermarket line. Dealer/port installs could have been anything sold locally. So may or may not necessarily be original.

perhaps fog lights is a bit of a misnomer. anyway this is the set i have. koito L2589 on an oct 73 fj45. the remnants of the wiring inside the engine bay looks oem enough; wire left through a hole near mt finger may be a good clue. dont know if they were standard equipment or not, only pair i have ever seen, but you can see why they never survived; look at that bumper. using the tow hooks wouldnt do them much good either. and most old toyotas in australia had roobars fitted. this a battered survivor but a solid cab sitting on a good chassis. it is 4 speed but still running the older doors. was sitting in a shed for years but unfortunately when the property changed hands the new owners took the perfect doors to cut down for a buggy and pushed it doorless into the weather. have since sourced the correct doors in the right colour (even paid a little money - i hate that!) but have done nought else. should get to it really but im still stuck in the early 60s at the moment!

The pair I have are the same part number Koito L2589. I believe albeit maybe misguided that these are Toyota lights. My only reason for saying this is I was given a set with mine 71 model, West Aussie has a set mounted on his and I was sent another pic showing them on another earlier model 40. As I said I will stand corrected but it seems a bit of a coincidence.

i would be interested to know if there are any wiring remnants on yours to compare; also the hole pictured in my post above where the wiring exits the engine bay. from what part of the world is the 3rd example you posted?

Hard to say but I think the wiring is Green/Pink or Orange that is coming out of it. The 3rd example is one from here in Aust as far as I am aware and was
posted to me by a mate of FB.
