Looking at finding more information about these little OEM chrome wonders... Coolerman posted these up in another thread... not to derail that thread... thought a new thread was in order :)

('7305-'7402) RHD according to toyodiy

Looking for more detailed pictures... these are a few I found... all Aussie cruisers

Oh, I also found another some other literature about the ..... View attachment 1047251

What's interesting about that drawing is it shows CLEARANCE LIGHTS mounted on the frame horns.

Here is a pic of the clearance lights...View attachment 1047252

I was also looking through all my pics last evening looking for any pics of those lights. I found nothing in my meager collection. MAybe someone in the middle east could share some pics as they seem to have gotten all the cool stuff the US never saw?

If you look closely at the wiring diagram shown above you will notice some odd things:

There are headlights, fog lights, clearance lights, front fender mounted turn/park lights and front apron marker lights all one ONE truck. What market would have had ALL of these? Now this may just be drawn to show everything that was available for all markets but still...

All the lights EXCEPT the fog lights have connections to the OEM main harness. Following the wires from the fog lights carefully you will see that they have a separate harness going into the cabin. Why was that? Were the fog lights really that rare of an option that they were added maybe by the dealer? Then I see Johnny's pic of all the trucks sitting awaiting shipment, all with fog lights, and I wonder...

Edit: Also notice that the headlights are wired like the late 1970-83 FJ40's, IE wires on both sides for the headlights not a bib harness that crossed over like the early trucks. So this diagram is at least 1970 or later unless other markets wiring harnesses were built this way earlier? I had always thought this diagram was for the early trucks. Now I'm not so sure...

Those trucks also have the crank handle guide and the front license plate holder, too cool!

Now another question: Being clearance lights, what color would they be?

And all have the hood cushion in the right direction.

Awesome JohnnyC! Where is this Thiess dealer located?

Australia, you really need to get out a little more. He was the biggest reasons the LC was so popular in Australia.

I believe front license plate bracket was always standard here. The hand crank was discontinued here in the early sixties like the pintle hook.

Thiess Australia :)

from the color pictures and comparison of the BW ones the lens is definitely clear... bulb :meh: i assume clear

I had seen clear directional lights before of factory photo trucks... around the same time frame... do not recall seeing these little clearence lights with them however... and cant recall the market for them... im thinking euro spec... but... could be wrong

I spend all my time in the basement building stuff for our toys! I rarely see daylight let alone another country!

Sorry wasn't meaning to offend. I know your doing great work with your wiring. I forget not everybody is interested in the real old Land Cruisers. I see Johnny already linked the Thiess Australia thread.

I did find the setup interesting, never seen a grill guard that didn't included the bumper. This appears to be bolted to the top of a stock bumper.

You've known me long enough to know I took no offense! :D
I am highly interested in the older Land Cruisers. I try to read MUD as often as possible but time is in short supply. Today is an exception. I have been on MUD all day while working on an electrical diagram for a new job! :grinpimp:

JohnnyC, while looking at some of those pics from the Thiess thread, I saw a reference to flip out turn signals? The pic showed these weird things mounted to the cowl. Any further information on how they worked or better pics?

So were all good, if I purchase some wiring it won't catch my vehicle on fire and burn to the ground.

I'm really pretty much stuck saying close to home but have figured a way to get some parts off this ugly thing.

These things just don't pop up here in AZ. It's a Australian spec 84. I have in the past noticed in the past these didn't have later glove box with the twist knob but was surprised it didn't have two piece steering column. Was planning on getting the wiring harness going to the tail lights but that too is a older style. Might just as well just splice in wires to make a later 40 series work in a LWB truck. I did take a few things with wires attached that will require a little custom wiring.

I see a salvageable mirror arm, the head is probably cracked though and maybe the radiator cap.

Radiator was probably thrown in the scape dumpster, it's no longer in the vehicle. Mirror is cracked but arm is good. Arm on other side is gone past the first section. I saw a few more useable parts. What the old saying one man's trash is another man's treasure.

think those diagrams are from my stuff, I "think" it was a 72-ish parts book

The 73 year date seems to verify what I said earlier about the diagram being for later not earlier trucks.

Rewrote my post above... ALOT of stuff is your ... We owe ya ... Big time :)

I can only find information pointing to 5/73-2/74... I can only find examples from Australia ... I believe they may have been used in Europe as well ... As they were also in some markets the ones that got the larger directionals in 74' a year before us

European cruisers got some funky things ... Fender skirts... Edge guards on corners... Weird spare hubcaps :)
