I just rebuilt the rear brakes on my 72 (of the 4 cylinders, only 1 was working), the cruiser stops great now but my park brake doesn't work (never has) and I didn't see a cable going into the rear brakes, how does the park brake work on a 72? am I missing a cable or something else?
Thanks,

i could be mistaken, but i'm pretty shure that you should have the drive line e-brake. there should be a cable that goes into the drum on your transfercase where your rear driveshaft bolts up.

YEP, on the output shaft of the transfer case...

Hi All:

As mentioned by others, on a stock 1972 FJ40 the parking brakes assembly is located on the rear of the transfer case. Inside the drum that the rear drive shaft bolts to there are a pair of brake shoes.

To adjust this p-brake look for a hex-head rod to sticks downwards from the p-brake backing plate. A 10mm wrench will fit this hex-head rod. Turn it clock-wise to tighten the brake shoes. Your TLC manual should have a section on the proper adjustment technique.

Honestly, if you've never been inside the p-brake assembly before you probably should service it. Spector Off-Road sells a nice re-build kit with everything you need.

Good luck!

Alan
